2022 Draft - Mets Pick - 1.14 - SS - Jett Williams

Jett Williams

SS      5-8     180     Rockwall-Heath HS (TX)

5-3-22 - Kiley McDaniel  (@kileymcd)

Jett Williams is a 5'8 prep shortstop from the Dallas area committed to Mississippi State with mid-first round buzz. Can really hit, run, and field, with feel to lift the ball in game and sneaky power. Skip to 0:48 for Kenny Powers vibes during BP.

4-21-22 - Prospect Live - Mock Draft 2.0 -

20. Atlanta Braves

Jett Williams, SS, Rockwell-Heath

Williams is a spark-plug middle infielder with sensational bat to ball skills and surprising juice for his size. There are those in the industry who believes Williams has the best hit tool among the “second tier” of the high school bats. He’s your prototype top-of-the-lineup bat who can stick at shortstop, though a shift to second base would see his defense tick up into the plus territory. There figures to be a good year on day one for “hitterish” prep infielders and Williams, for our money, will be the first off the board after Holliday and Johnson at the top. It does feel like Atlanta is a favorable landing spot for some of the injured college pitchers too. Alabama lefty Connor Preilipp fits well here, as does a healthy Gabriel Hughes out of Gonzaga.

3-12-22 - Zack Silverman @ZackSilverman18

Jett Williams ('22 @HailStateBB commit) had to wait back a little on this one and came up just short. Beautiful stroke from the right side. https://t.co/868qGydqaV

Jett Williams worked a 3-1 count here before getting one inner half and smoking it down the right field line for a go-ahead double. Zach Riley for Rock Hill has been changing speeds and hitting spots but Williams' eyes lit up when he got his pitch here.

Williams wrung up on a high fastball to lead off the seventh. Very top of the zone

2-7-22 - PBR Texas @PBR_Texas

2022 MIF Jett Williams

One of the top players in the state gets hold of one here and launches it over the LC Wall. The HailState BB signee is one of the more explosive athletes in the ‘22 class.

91 Jett Williams SS Rockwall-Heath Heath, TX

Williams does everything on the baseball field with intent. At the plate, there's quick wrists and an attacking path to the ball. The swing is extremely short and he does a very good job taking his hands to the ball. On the dirt, Williams is a bouncy middle infielder with rangy actions and fluidity around the bag and makings his throws. Smallish frame projects into an impact, top-of-the-lineup spark plug type of performer.

Guess we'll just have to wait a couple years to see what happens

I agree that from what I've read he was drafted too high. I wonder if it's because the Mets had agreed on a lower slot signing bonus, which will allow them to sign someone over slot who falls into the 2nd or 3rd or later round. In any event, that's what I'm hoping

Interesting. Not a big fan of short guys.

Not sure on the doom and gloom……..researched the player and a ton of mocks and he’s highly rated (especially if he slides to 2B as rumored). He’s a touch farther away, but the system is lacking lower level depth, so he slots in nicely.

I suspect the Mets have an over slot player in mind for one of the second rounders.

Keith Law had Parada 5th and Williams 11th overall……..here’s hoping he’s right.

If we got at 11 and 14 what Law thought would be 5 and 11, that is promising.

Hmmm, I just posted something saying how I like Law alot so if he thinks so…

This from SNY:

“Williams, who was not in attendance for the draft, spoke briefly with reporters via Zoom and let fans know that he actually has a childhood connection to the area.

"When I heard my name called, it was pretty surreal," Williams said. "You know what's funny is, I used to actually live in New York when I was 2 to 4. So happy to come back home and can't wait to get to work, pretty awesome moment."

He added: "I lived in Long Island and Port Jefferson, and I moved away because my dad was a PA and physician's assistant and chiropractor," Williams added. "So he moved down to Texas for work, so we came here. My brother and him actually went to Stony Brook for college. My brother played lacrosse and is now in medical school."

Williams went on to discuss his style of play, even comparing himself to some of the shorter stars in MLB whom he looked up to like Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve, and Mookie Betts.

"I feel like I play the game the right way," he said. "Play hard, play with a little bit of a chip on my shoulder, just knowing that I'm kind of an undersized guy, and I feel like I always kind of have to prove everybody wrong. Kind of just do the little things right, running out ground balls, running out fly balls. And then I feel like my hitting is really, really good, I have really good plate discipline and best ball skills, and just ready to get to work."
