Bullpen:
Edwin Diaz - complete beast; makes hitters quake
Drew Smith - ERA around 3.00
Adam Ottavino - ERA under 3.00
Seth Lugo - some struggles, but he is usually good
David Peterson - should be starting, but will get bumped to the pen
Trevor Williams - versatile starter/reliever
Colin Holderman - 4-0. And he's good, too.

Tom Szapucki - 55 AAA IP, 73 Ks, 3.60. Very nice last outing (6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 8 K).
Conclusion:
Injuries happen, but if the Mets pitchers can stay mostly healthy for a while, that group looks darned good to me. Not sure we need more than those 18 fellas.
METS TAKE THE BRAVES 2 OF 3:
A nice, dandy 7-3 win. Lindor a HR and 3 ribbies (64), which put the Mets up 4-0.
Bassett was nice and dandy as well.
MINOR LEAGUES MENTIONINGS:
Some boffo hitting performances!
Syracuse? Vientos homered again (# 16, a 3 run shot) in a game in which Syracuse led 7-4 going into the 4th. Vientos had 2 hits and 4 RBIs on the night, and Travis Blankenhorn had a HR (12) and single choice as well.
Khalil Lee then took over with 2 HRs and another hit. It sure is nice when 4-5-6 in the line-up compiles 4 HRs, 7 total hits, and 8 RBIs.
Plummer singled in a run to make it 10-6, and then Francisco Alvarez came up. Wild pitch, 11-6. Alvarez then walked, his 2nd walk of the night.
Cherry on the Sundae:
The Beast, Bryce Montes de Oca, pitched a scoreless 9th and fanned two.
Another Brennan fave, Eric Orze, threw 2 scoreless in relief to nab the victory.
Each team had 4 HRs, and Alvarez is off to a 2 for 23, 4 walk intro to AAA.
Binghamton stunk again, losing 7-2, except Baty had 3 hits, including his 12th, and Jeremy Vasquez had 3 hits and is red hot in July.
St. Lucie swept a 7 inning doubleheader. Omar De Los Santos had 2 HRs (11,12) in one of the games and Junior Tilien (8) connected as well.
Brooklyn? Stanley Consuegra had a fine week last night, ripping a HR and 3 doubles and driving in 5 in a 9-0 win, in which Garrison Bryant threw 6 shutout frames and Sherveyn Newton was 3 for 4.

NO ONE wants to congratulate Stanley Consuegra? Come on, man, big night for SG...goes to Brooklyn, where hitters die...and rake a HR and 3 doubles?
Syracuse's 4-5-6 knocking in 8 runs with 4 HRs?
Omar showing he ain't just speed?
SAY IT? I'll say it - Kudos, fellas.
And let's not forget Baty - .310 since end of June with a HR every 15 ABs. Kudos.
And Mark Vientos - 15 HRs in 179 ABs since the end of April - Kudos.
And of course Blankenhorn, hitting .385 after May with 8 HRs and 29 RBIs in 32 games. - Kudos.
Oh, yeah, those major league Mets are pretty spiffy too.

Lastly, what made the Mets' 2 of 3 so amazing was the fact that the 5 fill-ins named Smith, Jankowski, Davis, Nido and Mazeika went a combined 2 for 30 with 4 walks, no RBIs and 1 run scored in the series. Getting McNeil and Marte back will help, but that level of comatose production from that group of 5 is screaming "fix me".
Mack, I think Vientos is more like 37 HRs in his last 400 official at bats, but same incredibly impressive level of HR #'s from a 22 year old. Big power to all fields.
Name me another Met farmhand who did that. No one can, because it never happened before.
But, on the subject of pitching, I have seen Facebook experts wanting to send Drew Smith, Seth Lugo, and Tommy Hunter packing.
I countered with, how many other teams would add Drew Smith to their MLB pen tomorrow if available? All 29. Lugo? At least 25, possibly all 29.
Hunter? At least several, and Buck expressed again that he likes Hunter because after allowing a HR to make it 7-3, he shrugged it off and went right back to business.
Great series win. Thats what you pay the big bucks for and MY GUY ( I know more crow eating) Lindor that was a signature moment and I tip my hat. Think about how much money have we spent over the years thinking we were getting "The Guy" only to find out we didn't. The streets are littered with the body's of those who failed so I congratulate you and I have to also give Mariano Diaz the same props because when was the last time a player failed so spectacularly and recovered so brilliantly. I'm going to need to get more hats to tip. This 3 game set had disaster writen all over it and they played their butts off shorthanded and took 2 of 3 and to me the Bravos looked a shell shocked which is wonderful. Hey Atlanta GAME ON!!

Guys explain to me why Blanks and/or Vientos are not at least DHing? Also how are Consuegua and De Los Santos defensively?
My guess these guys can be showcased to other teams better if they are hitting well at the AAA level than riding the bench or striking out in Flushing
I think we will see some new faces in the lineup next week.
Mack I get it to a point but wouldn't you want to know if they can do it before we do another Baez/Crow disaster.
I agree 100% with Tom and Mack. If there's an available pen upgrade out there without serious overpayment, go for it, but to me our staff is fine as is. And it will be better with Jake, Tylor and Trevor.
The big question mark is the DH spot. If Dom and/or JD don't break out with the bats in the next 2 weeks, we MUST make moves to fill that spot. Either we get credible bats such as Mancini or Bell, or we'll be forced to promote Vientos or Alvarez and hope he's ready.
