Tom Brennan - Edwin Diaz is Great, And So is Adam Ottavino

Celebrate Greatness When You See It

Reese Kaplan did a fine article on the Mets' relievers this morning.  This little article of mine is like a preacher asking his congregants, "Can I get an Amen?"

Timmy Trumpet and most of the free world agrees:

Edwin Diaz is GREAT!

Tony the Tiger says he is great, too, and I don't argue with Tigers.

103 on the gun is great. I hit 103 on the gun - but that was counting the speed of both of my pitches.

Adam Ottavino is great too.

Yes, Mark Levin, I said it - and why?

Because it is a fact-based assertion.

From June-Sept, Ottavino has thrown 36 innings, surrendered just 4 runs (1.00), 23 hits, and 6 walks, rung up 40 Ks and picked up 4 saves. Awesome.

Better than awesome: GREAT!

Even in his bad months, they were bad only by comparison to June thru Sept.

In April and May, 18 innings, 23 Ks, 8 earned runs.  Not great but certainly not bad. I'll say GOOD.

Some Facebook fans have been very upset about Edwin sometimes being used in the 8th and Ottavino as closer.  But it has been highly effective.

Me? I like highly effective. I think that is GREAT!

So, if you're not ready to say that 36 year old Adam Ottavino is great, at least acknowledge:

1) He is having a great year.

2) He has a wickedly great slider.

Thank you for coming around to my side.

He's great.

And if you agree with me, so are you.

Can I get an amen?

Adam has us on the Eve of a Division title, along with the Trumpet Man. Dynamic Duo.

Oh, did anyone notice that Yankee 16 game lead is now FIVE?

AMEN and it goes to show you don't have to throw 101 to get outs AND it really helps to change up the speeds from trumpet to Otto. Well done Tom and I really hope SC has a few extra hundred million in his cash draw for this off season. Wow Stevie just called and said no problem! I really love this man!

They have been great, but you need a mix of guys throwing different stuff to keep the opponents off balance. Fortunately we have some of that as well. Good pen. Good team. Good season. Keep it going! LGM!

I've noticed. If they lose 2 more to the Rays, their division lead might be smaller than ours.
LG Rays!

Bill, Yanks were lucky they caught the Mets in an understandably fatigued state. Even one Mets win would have REALLY put the Rays nipping at Bronx Heels (and Heels they are)
