It sucks that the Mets have to live with this penalty that hampered them last year, and will this year too and maybe next year. It would be nice if they tanked responsibly last year and if the lottery was kinder to them, but, oh well. Hopefully, next year they land a top six pick and not be punished, and I would like to see the payroll below the threshold. I’m tired of throwing money at these greedy players that have to limits. Are the owners greedy? Yes, but the team is their investment and that is their prerogative. Steve Cohen’s worry about his image and being liked, forces him to buy appreciation and New Yorkers just don’t have that gene.

Mack ,
Any chance Cam Caminiti falls to us at 19? can we assume he would be the best of the remaining undrafted pitchers at 19 if he did?

The dead money killed them

All of that comes off but many more cuts like Marte McNeal and Alonso are needed

Failure if top level development forces a new target to 2026

Mets brass need to realize this and act accordingly

Mack, are you punting 2025 since the 2024 punt was a half hearted effort? I would like to punt on the Soto types, but how can I argue that when Philadelphia invested as such in Bryce Harper, and look at what he has done for them? I wanted Harper here, but…

If I were Mets GM, I would identify specific players that I would want, like they did with Yamamoto but I would be open to others like Imanaga, that I would have at least kicked the tires on and 4/$53 wasn’t a big number. Problem is, they are so far over the cap that spending is a handcuff.

Actually there is a very good chance

Yes, because of top level injuries and slow development, I would punt 2025. Just not enough quality Met hitters in my plan.

But I still would go balz in on Soto

A core of Soto, Alvarez, Vientos is a good start but not enough

We need an "it" player and Soto is it. Problem of course is why would he come here after probably playing in the WS and he's a good shot to win MVP so is there another player as a plan B? Problem there is whenever we go plan B we get burned like Bay instead of Holliday and McCann instead of Realmuto. We need to clean it out and build it from there and fill the holes with good young talent that we are supposed to have already but of course we've lost valuable playing time with Mauricio Williams and Gilbert but have to hope their return and smart player moves by our new FO will finally get us on the right path. Navarez hits a walk off single so he's now 1 for 28 hitting at home but Vientos, he of the 1.167 OPS, sits for the second straight day which is just plain crazy.

I'm sure you all noticed Houser came in and pitched the last FOUR INNINGS OMG maybe they can start a trend here....yeah right makes to much sense.
