Tom Brennan: Mets’ Sunday was Fun Day; Mets Promotions

The Mets jumped for joy!! And no one got hurt doing it!

Mets win 7-3.

Lindor 2 hits. Nimmo clutch 2 run shot in 9th. Bader and Taylor 2 RBIs each.

Manaea wins. Garrett (2 innings, no runs, 4 Ks) may be their…new closer?

Heck, Garrett is 5-0, 0.72, 41 Ks in 26 innings. Reminds one of that certain closer of 2022, huh? Name eludes me. Is he still around?

Mets are 17-9 in their last 26…well, 9-17, but who exactly is counting?

Omar Narvaez was credited with a caught stealing, how fun is that, although it was Jake Diekman that actually threw the ball to second.

Omar’s 0 for 32 CS season start and MLB record (0 for 38) going back to last year was thereby stopped in its tracks. Bizarrely long streak and bizarre way for it to end.

AAA

5-3 win.

Peterson allowed 1 run in 5.2 innings. He is over-ripe. 81 pitches.

Thompson hit his 13th HR (wow), then fanned 3 times (whoops).

Syracuse is 26-16. Yes, really.

AA

Binghamton won and Parada hit his 5th.

Suarez allowed 2 runs with 2 outs in the 3rd and was pulled. Hopefully all is well.

Hit machine Rhylan Thomas (.323) had 2 hits. Palmer 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBIs.

Junior Santos, like a good accountant, recorded 5 outs without a hit for the W.

HIGH A

McLean homered, yeah, again, right?

As did Senor Paz and Stanley of the land of Consuegra.

Lugo, Lara, and J De Los Santos? 2 hits each. All 3 hitters, like Lindor, who also had 2 hits, are still under .200.

8-5 win.

A

St Lucie keeps right on losing, 10-6, but smacked out 17 hits.

Ronald Hernandez had been walking a lot but not racking up too many hits. Last 3 games, though, the 20 year old has gone 9 for 13, 8 RBIs. Egads, a catcher that HITS!

More Sundays like this and we’d have….

Fun, fun, fun, ‘til they take Mack Daddy’s T-Bird away.

CONGRATS IN ORDER:

Mets RHP prospect Blade Tidwell and OF Rhylan Thomas have been promoted to Syracuse.

Tidwell had one tough game in AA this year, but was fireballer-dominant  in all the rest, and had a 2.41 ERA, 44 Ks/11 BBs in 37.1 IP.  Future ace potential in Queens.

Thomas still has just McNeil power, but also is a remarkable contact hitter like McNeil who is well above .300 in his career. No reason not to fast-track that. Decent speed excellent glove (add more power, please). 24 year old with a lefty bat.

Only 513 pro at bats so far, so please play him every single day and boost that. He has 56 career walks, vs. just 46 career Ks. And just 18 Ks at the AA level in 168 PAs in 2023 and 2024, where he has hit .333.

To fill their spots in AA, the remarkable pitcher/hitter Nolan McLean moves to AA, where he will (I expect) continue to shine as a pitcher and have a better hitting environment than Brooklyn to launch his missiles, too.

And righty hitting Omar De Los Santos will join him in Binghamton. Omar has just 16 hits and a .165 average in A ball…but 25 steals in 27 tries?? Extraordinary.  He has 132 steals in 988 PAs since the start of 2022.

Omar is like Vince Coleman, except basically he cannot hit. In High A in 2023 and in 2024, 465 ABs, just .198 in 131 games, with 173 Ks vs. just 29 walks. He turns 25 in August. Hopefully, he figures out the hitting part.

Man, if you could combine Omar’s great speed, McLean’s huge power, and Rhylan’s elite hitting and contact skills, you’d have a sure-fire all time great.

Mark Vientos' slash line is .333/.391/.571. I'll settle for that.

Megill getting promoted today and Peterson expected to be promoted soon. When will Senga get promoted? Houser starts on Wednesday and it would be nice to see a good outing or two out of him so he can get promoted to another team for some international dollars in order to sign more than just Diaz. Speaking of Diaz’s, have y’all been following Joel Diaz’ return from TJS? He is excellent in the FCL so far. And wow, has Clifford’s promotion gone haywire.

Now that Narvaez caught his first runner, may he catch some more?

I love the new Mets lineup and about time! My only hope is to see Vientos in it more often and Alvarez to be back soon. McNeil is the #1 culprit of the Mets offensive demise. While people bitch at Bader, we knew what Bader was going to offer and honestly, he has surpassed it. Wish the Mets had another option at second base right now.

Gus, maybe Ruben Tejada wants to return? Show Jeff how it is done?
