Mack’s Observations -
David Stearns is doing everything he can to ruin a great lead in portion of this post.
I decided this was a great time in the early season to write about possible promotions that could be coming in this organization. I figured it might be a little early especially since the Mets are well known for their snail pace at promoting thise that should be.
Well, Stearns looks like a breath of fresh air, what with this week’s promotions of Jonah Tong, Danny Young, and Christian Scott, doing their best to ruin what I had already wrote and saved since this past Sunday night.
The top three Syracuse hitters (J.D. Martinez, Tomas Nido, Mark Vientos) have already caught the shuttle to LaGuardia so I don’t, baring injuries, see any additional bats coming to Queens soon. Vientos has since returned, leaving him one more option.
Starter Joey Lucchesi has put up impressive numbers so far, but remains in the Mets doghouse what with the Scott promotion being the second starter promotion (Butto) out of this affiliate.
Reliever-wise, Dedniel Nunez, Danny Young, Reid Garrett, and Sean Reid-Foley have already got the call. No other Syracuse relievers have combined for a decent amount of innings thrown and an equally decent ERA.
As for AA-Binghamton, there really is only one bat that should be promoted to AAA-Syracuse and that would be CF Alex Ramirez. And I really don’t care who they kick to curb to make room for him. This is the top producing outfielder in the chain so far this season and someone already in Syracuse needs to be either demoted of given a tent and told to move to the Columbia University campus lawn.
Pitching wise, RHSP Blade Tidwell looks to be the first that will move forward, possibly causing Mike Vasil to be sent back here for addition AA work. This could quickly follow the Scott promotion on Wednesday.
Reliever wise, RHRP Wilkin Ramos is establishing himself early as their top AA pen arm.
Regarding A+ Brooklyn, right now, no pitchers or catchers are posting the results to make a case for a promotion. Both starters Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean need more time at this level to develop.
In St. Lucie, RHRP Jawilme Ramirez, SS Nick Moribito, and C/1B/OF Christopher Suero look to be the next in line once room is made for them in Brooklyn.

Was doing TV last night so just getting around to this: Severino brilliant, obviously. Use of 2-seamer this season has made him more unpredictable; 4-seamer playing up again. Also, thought it was cool the way he acknowledged crowd's ovation after 8th. Not enough pitchers do it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that with all the tinkering in baseball there are simply now too many rules. They’ve gone too far. Keep it simple MLB

Watching Scott last night, one can see why he was promoted and not Lucchesi. Sadly for Joey, he is pitching better than Quintana and Houser , but the latter 2 have big contracts.
Some will say Quintana is better than Joey. I in reply say that almost anyone is better than a guy who in his last 63 starts and 22 relief appearances (Quintana) has been credited with just TEN WINS. Ridiculous.
Morabito is my guy. Even more than Ramirez, even though he still is behind in terms of playing level.
How good is Mike Vasil? In 93 AAA innings in 2023-24, a 6.48 ERA and 1.63 WHIP.. My comp, until proven otherwise, is Corey Oswalt.
Scott looks like a keeper. So is Senga. My guess is Tidwell will be also.
Past that... some combo of Megill, Butto, Peterson, and Lucchese will fill in the back end until others develop
I would trade Q this season
More on this next Sunday
Moribito and Alvarez are at different levels
Both need to be bumped up soon so they set up for the next bump up in the spring
I would turn both Hamel and Vasil info relievers next season in Queens
Hamel I will give a little more time, to see if he can be a big league starter, but Maybe he can be the next Trevor May. That would be fine.
Alvarez or Ramirez?
Ramirez
Sorry
Future of Mets outfield stoll cloudy. Mets need Ramirez to be real.
Mack when you said Alvarez you mean Francisco?
I have never been one who would say I can scout players but I always remember saying Pelfrey needs to be traded asap after his first start. Scott looks like a keeper.
I think butto has earned the 5th spot
So if Scott butto and senga can fill 3 spots we can really have the payroll flexibility needed to compete
I was never a morbito guy but hopefully he can save that draft that had 4 picks in the top 100 or something like that
Still can’t let go of leako and porter
We could have been talking about generation K 2
Eddie
1. I meant Alex Ramirez
2. I expect Scott will turn out to be much better then zpelf
3. I like Butto too. Right now deserves slot over both Megill and Peterson
Re: Moribito
I was floored when the Mets picked him where they did especially since the two future stars were still on the board
Great Scott what a performance and I loved his answer when they asked him if he had trouble sleeping last night and he said "slept like a baby" LOVE IT! Solid family and support is another plus. Now can our big guys start hitting now!! Dam what a waste of good/great pitching so far but dare I say same old Mets ugh. Can't help but wonder if we've seen the best of McNeil and that would be really sad. Last but not least I love that DS keeps the line moving and Mendosa for keeping the kid in for 6 2/3 and Mack do you know what his pitch limit is for this season?
Saw Scott's Dad was sitting far away from the Mom. Hmm.
Gary. This is a .500 team. Again. Enjoy the good parts and be thankful you don't root for the Marlins
Don't forget Severino. Been pitching like an ace. Our rotation is looking very solid.
I would trade Severino

As I am rotisserie p-I guess the lamb to enjoy for Easter, I am reading y’all banter with great interest.
Quintana is only signed through this year, so yeas, he goes.
Luchessi is being asked to come more prepared for spring training next year in a way he won’t ever forget.
Houser has an MLB track record, so if you can get him straight, he will have value to someone.
Pitching is expensive and the TJS surgeries are making it. Ore of a commodity. Hold on to everyone you have control us and hold up contenders with the rest. Stearns has accumulated. The magic question is, if you are hovering around .500, do you sell? I would sell whatever I can get more than I’m expecting for.
Alonso, Severino, Quintana, Houser, Manaea, Martinez and McNeil, all are on the table. You have Acuna and Mauricio coming back and it’s time to make space. You won’t get alot for some of them, but you didn’t get alot for Tommy Pham either, but what you got… it’s pretty good. Stearns will be busy in July.
The rotation on August 2nd:
Senga, Scott, Lucchesi, Megill, Peterson, Butto, Hamel, and whoever isn’t traded or maybe Vasil, even though he be very strong in the bullpen. Vasil was very good for three innings, then got lit up. I believe that his stuff will play in MLB without that stupid system that makes a quarter inch off the plate a ball.
Gus, Hamel and Vasil May have a stingy strike zone now, but the majors has far superior hitters. Not good for both.
I have thoughts on this subject next Sunday
