Duda and Coronado lead B-Mets to Doubleheader Sweep of Thunder

Lucas Duda singled in the game-winning run in the eighth inning of game two of Sunday’s doubleheader versus the Trenton Thunder to give the B-Mets the sweep. Binghamton is now 4-1 at NYSEG Stadium against the AA Yankees this season.

The B-Mets rallied from down 3-1 after five to score one in the sixth on and RBI double by Jose Coronado. The B-Mets then tied the game in the last of the seventh against Trenton reliever Michael Dunn. Shawn Bowman got things going with a base hit to center. D.J. Wabick followed with a singleT and Ruben Tejada walked to load the bases. Dunn then proceeded to walk Carl Loadenthal on four pitches to force Mark Kiger, the pinch-runner for Bowman, in from third to tie the game and send it to extras.

In the eighth, Josh Thole led off with a base knock to left and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Emmanuel Garcia. Thole beat out a poor throw from Thunder catcher Kyle Anson that allowed Garcia to reach. Duda completed the comeback with the game-winning hit to right-centerfield scoring Thole from second on an 0-2 pitch from reliever Josh Schmidt, who took the loss.

Jason Stephens took a no-hitter into the fifth and only gave up one run in his five inning start in game two.

Stephen Clyne was the winner for the B-Mets, throwing a season-best 2.2 innings of one hit ball in relief off starter Tobi Stoner.

Binghamton (17-18) took game one by a count of 2-1 behind a strong starting effort from Ryan Coultas and Coronado’s bat.

Coronado reached all three times going two-for-two with a walk. He drove in Bowman in the fourth on a single up the middle, which proved to be the difference. Earlier in the inning Duda scored on a sacrifice fly by Wabick as the B-Mets got to Ivan Nova who took the loss.

Ryan Coultas pitched 5.1 innings to pick up his third win and Julio De La Cruz went the final 1.2 innings retiring all five men he faced to notch his third save.

Jorge Vazquez went a combined 5-7 in the two games for Trenton (16-18) with four doubles and a two-run homer in the losing effort.

Binghamton has a scheduled off day tomorrow returning to action Tuesday in Connecticut against the Defenders. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
