Second baseman/infielder Jake Eigsti has been recalled to High-A St. Lucie while Jordany Valdespin returns to the Savannah roster, the New York Mets announced today.
Also joining the Savannah roster are pitchers Jake Goldberg and Michael Powers.
Valdespin returns to Savannah after being spending time with the Mets in Extended Spring Training. He was hitting .385 with three home runs and 15 RBI and among the Top-10 in the South Atlantic League in batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored and hits prior to the move.
Eigsti makes the move upward after playing in five games with the Sand Gnats. He delivered the game-tying RBI single in Savannah’s ninth inning rally on Thursday night.
Goldberg, 23, was drafted by the Mets in the 36th round of the 2008 amateur draft from the College of Charleston. In 12 appearances with the GCL Mets, Goldberg was 1-4 with a 7.52 ERA. He struck out 29 batters in 26.1 innings while walking six. He was born and still currently resides in Charleston, S.C.
Powers, 23, makes his second appearance in Georgia’s First City as the Michigan product was called to Savannah near the end of last season. In three games with the Sand Gnats, Powers was 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA. The Mets drafted Powers in the 32nd round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Michigan.
With the addition of Powers and Goldberg, Erik Turgeon has been assigned to Extended Spring Training. Turgeon was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA with three saves in 10 outings with Savannah.
