ZiPS, Ike, Reese Havens, Ruben Tejada... and Mets Blogs Suck

ZiPS:

Can you explain in basic terms how the ZiPS projection system works?

DS: The simplest way I can describe it is: ZiPS uses the last 4 years to establish a baseline for a player from their performance and from predictive models for things like BABIP. It then applies a regression model and calculates probabilities for age-related changes based on large groups of similar players from MLB histories. ZiPS uses the recent past for a player and tries to find similar players at roughly the same age. - link

Ike Davis:

1. Ike Davis, 1B, Arizona State, #18 Overall: Davis was the first of the Mets’ two 2008 first-rounders, and he was expected to be a solid first-round prospect. His value was completely in his bat, and he was expected to be a middle of the order force. This was a solid pick. Following players selected: Andrew Cashner, Josh Fields, Ryan Perry. Signing bonus: $1,575,000. - link

Reese Havens:

L-R - 6'1 195 - NYM - 10.20.86. A teammate of top 1B prospect Justin Smoak at South Carolina, Havens joined him in the 1st round of the 2008 draft. There was some pre-draft buzz that some teams were interested in converting Havens to a catcher, he's played SS thus far as a professional, but he'll be moving to 2B this year. He'll learn the position in the AA Eastern League where he'll try to approve his .247 career batting average - link

Ruben Tejada:

R-R- 6'0 160 - NYM - 10.27.89. Three years younger than Reese Havens, but one level in front of him, Tegada illustrates the difference in development between a teenage international signee and a prospect that spends three years in college. While a better defender than Havens, his bat is not as advanced. He lacks plate discipline and doesn't have much power. He'll advance to AAA Buffalo this season and could potentially challenge unpopular 2B Luis Castillo for playing time in the 2nd half.

Mets Blogs Suck:

When I search "New York Mets" these days on the internet, I see a whopping increase in stories outlining the inexplicable ineptitude of New York's second best baseball club.

I also see a glut of blogs and websites dedicated to lamenting on the travels and travails of this comically dysfunctional organization. It's unreal the amount of effort that is going into these things.

I thought I was the king of Met negativity, but these sites make me look like Cow Bell Man.

Check these out:

MetsFail, MetsPolice, OhMurph, Metstradamus, Archie Bunker's Army, Faith and Fear in Flushing, Real Dirty Mets Blog, it goes on and on.- link

(well... at least I made the first cut...)

hi My name is Ed Marcus aka Rustyjr over at the real dirty mets blog and honestly i don't know why you lumped us in with some of the other blogs that you had mentioned. I am the minority of negative voices that write on that blog . And with saying that im not down on the team - im down on the management. I feel that it's unfair to say that we are a negative blog because if you have read the majority of the articles or the comments section - most of us writers actually respond and defend our positions - most of the writers - although disapointed with the way the last 3 seasons have ended have defended the team and their lack of movement this past off season
thankyou for you time and consideration - ed marcus
p.s feel free to comment on our blog at any time

Err...

I didn't lump you with anything...

If you look at the end of the entry, there is a link to another site that wrote that...

Frequent readers here know that when I "lump" five topics together, they are all snippets from other sites, and I link to the original site to help build up YOUR hits...
