CUTNPASTE: - Jenrry Mejia, Joaquin Arias, Fernando Tatis, Orlando Tovar... and Nick Evans

Jenrry Mejia:

link  - Mets righthander Jenrry Mejia made a compelling case that his future ought to be in the rotation. He fired eight one-run innings in his Triple-A debut for Buffalo last night. The diminutive 20-year-old struck out nine Syracuse batters, including seven of the first eight he faced and six in a row at one point, while allowing seven Chiefs to reach via five hits, a walk and a hit batter. Mejia reportedly sat at 96 mph for much of the outing, and the lone run he allowed came courtesy of a solo homer by Syracuse center fielder Michael Martinez. Mejia has taken just about the most circuitous route possible to Triple-A this season. He surprisingly began the year in the big league bullpen, where he held his own, before a demotion to Binghamton resulted in a quick visit to the disabled list with a strained rotator cuff. Mejia re-joined Binghamton on Aug. 7 to wreak the havoc outlined above. The Mets called him up following his dominating turn for Buffalo, this time to start.

Joaquin Arias:

link  - Arias was obtained by the Rangers in the trade that sent Alex Rodriguez to New York in 2003. He was thought to have great potential, but developed shoulder trouble in 2007 and never really met expectations in Texas. He was called up late in 2008 and hit .291 in 110 at-bats. He played in only three major league games in 2009 and hit .278 with nine RBIs in 98 at-bats in 2010. With Ian Kinsler on the disabled list and Cristian Guzman struggling, Arias was given some chances at second base. But he had a couple of mental gaffes in Tampa Bay earlier this month and ended up getting designated for assignment last week to make room for Alex Cora.

Fernando Tatis:

link  - Fernando Tatis ~ 2010 salary $.85M: After the Mets lost Tatis for the season with a shoulder injury, it's very, very unlikely they will bring him back. The Mets have Mike Hessman on the team now, who can do just what Tatis did, but better. King Fernando did have some nice moments for the Mets, and for that we thank him.

Orlando Tovar:

link  - Orlando Tovar was honored as the Kingsport Mets pitcher of the year before the Sunday August 29 game against the Bristol White Sox. Tovar, a versatile left hander, has been effective as both a starter and reliever. He sports a perfect record of 4 wins with no losses while carrying a solid 3.43 ERA. Tovar also allowed just 9 walks while strking out 40 batters in 45 innings pitched.

Nick Evans:

link  - Talk about falling off the face of the Earth, or the Mets at least. Evans was hanging out at AA Binghamton for most of the year and has played at AAA Buffalo for the past couple weeks. His numbers have been better than ever, and one could wonder why we have yet to see him in a Mets' uni this season. In 115 games, between AAA and AA, Evans has hit .300 and popped 22 home runs. The Mets have been waiting for his power game to develop for years. Now is the time to see him get some more action after the rosters expand this week.

Mack, wouldn't you rather see Evans than Hessman in the "Tatis" role?

Hobie:

Yes I would, but it would never happen under Jerry. He simply doesn't like the young man.

In this case, first thing first, which begins very soon. Jerry Manual will most probably be fired the day after the season ends, Omar Minaya will be kicked upstairs, and Rizzo will most probably be named GM... I don't think the Wilpons will go outside the organization for these positions.

I agree, but confess I don't know much about Rizzo. What's the skinny on him?

And just a hunch: Obie (rhymes with Hobie) takes over in Queens with Teufel in Beuffel and Backman in Bingo.

What you think?

(Mike Nickeas just got called up)

I don't know much about Rizzo. What I do know is that not many baseball people want to work for the Wilpons.

Also, forget Bobby V.

He and the Wilpons are like oil and water.

The way it is supposed to work is the GM picks the manager... so I have no idea.

Agree about BV, and not just with the Wilpons.

Whatever problems OM has with other GM's (seemingly demanding more from the Mets than they eventually get from other teams), would likely continue with "the smartest guy in the room" rep that Valentine has.

Outside the box: Torre as GM?

I think Torre would be an incredible move and would sure make the Wilpons look good.

One thing I've learned over the years...

when you're at this point of the season, and no one is being fired, it usually means your replacement is actively part of another organization that is still in the hunt for a playoff spot...
