Cutnpaste: - AAA Rule V, Saving Jose, Cliff Lee Bio, Mayo on Elvin, and Sickels on Emaus

AAA Rule V:

The Triple-A phase of baseball’s Rule V Draft is not the same as the major league portion. At the MLB level, a selected player must be offered back to his original team if he does not remain on a major league roster for the duration of the next season. In the Triple-A phase, a team can select an unprotected player from the Double-A level or below for the cost of $12,000. That player does not have to be offered back to his original team at any time.

Saving Jose:

Thanks to the events of this week, a swollen market now potentially awaits Reyes. On the eve of these meetings, Washington set the pace with a seven-year, $126-million deal for outfielder Jayson Werth. Three days later, the Red Sox topped that in giving Crawford his mega-contract. “Certainly,” Sandy Alderson said as he prepared to exit his first winter meetings at general manager of the Mets, “I think everybody’s going to have to step back and figure out what this means for the overall marketplace going forward.”

Cliff Lee Bio:

News Update: Clifton Phifer Cliff Lee (born August 30, 1978) is a Major League Baseball left-handed starting pitcher who is currently a free agent. Lee’s repertoire features a four-seam fastball, two-seam fastball, a cut fastball as well as a circle changeup and a knuckle curve. Lee won the American League Cy Young Award in 2008. Lee was drafted by the Florida Marlins with the 12th pick of the 8th round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft out of Benton High School in his hometown of Benton, Arkansas, but instead chose to attend Meridian Community College in Mississippi. Later, Lee was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 20th round of the 1998 amateur draft, but did not sign, opting to attend the University of Arkansas

Mayo on Elvin:

Ramirez, the 23-year-old righty who pitched most of the year with St. Lucie in the Florida State League, has been pitching extremely well in the Dominican Winter League, posting a 2.18 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings. The reliever had reportedly been clocked in the upper 90s this winter, and while command has been an issue, he's walked only four in the Dominican Winter League. Several teams attempted to trade up in order to take Ramirez, but the Nationals held on to their pick and took him at No. 6 overall. Washington also took the Cardinals' Brian Broderick, who had impressed scouts in the Arizona Fall League, near the end of the Major League phase of the Draft.

Sickels on Emaus:
Mets: Bradley Emaus, 2B, from Blue Jays: 24 years old, hit .290/.397/.476 between Double-A and Triple-A. So-so tools, but draws walks and has some power, could stick as a useful bench option with a solid bat.
