Cutnpaste: - Jews In Baseball, BP on Elvin, Santa Met, Boras on Beltran, and Sickels on Elvin

Jews and Baseball:

While "Jews and Baseball" devotes a great deal of attention to the two towering figures in Jewish baseball history—slugger Hank Greenberg and pitcher Sandy Koufax (who gave a rare, in-depth, on-camera interview for the documentary)—the film also spotlights dozens of lesser-known but hugely influential figures. The documentary traces an unbroken line of great Hebrew personalities, beginning with Lipman Pike, who, in 1866, became one of baseball’s first paid professionals when the Philadelphia Athletics put him on their payroll for his blazing speed and powerful bat. - hardballtimes

BP on Elvin:

•Nationals: Elvin Ramirez, RHP (from Mets): One of the talks of the Dominican Winter League with 26 strikeouts and just four walks in 20.2 innings for Cibao; Plus-plus velocity, but no previous history of throwing strikes consistently. - BP

Santa Met:

The Year: 2005 - The Santa: Kris Benson - The Fallout: Perhaps the most famous Mets Santa of them all, Benson entertained in 2005 while his wife, Anna Benson, infamously showed up wearing a revealing Mrs. Claus costume. A month later, the Mets sent both Bensons packing in a trade to Baltimore - dicomo

Boras on Beltran:

How is Carlos recovering from his knee issues? "I don't think the word 'recovering' is accurate, because Carlos's knees are recovered. He's just making the whole dynamic of his body and his strength and his quads and his legs better. I think when you have surgery, when you get a full period of time, a season to make yourself stronger, more flexible, that's really what's going on. As far as his knees, he's orthopedically sound." - dicomo.

Sickels on Elvin:

Nationals: Elvin Ramirez, RHP, from Mets: 23 years old, posted 4.16 ERA with 72/49 K/BB in 80 innings between St. Lucie and Binghamton. Drafted for his 95-99 MPH fastball, not his command. Might stick in the bullpen. - minorleagueball
