Cutnpaste: - Justin Turner, Carlos Monasterios, Trading Draft Picks, and Flores and Fonzy

Justin Turner:

Escogido 5, Aguilas 4 - Big league veteran Justin Turner slugged a three-run homer as the Leones halted a two-game slide. Joel CarreƱo (Blue Jays) allowed two runs on five hits over four innings for Escogido, while Dodgers prospect Elian Herrera homered, tripled and plated two runs for the Aguilas - MLB

Carlos Monasterios:

RHP, by New York Mets (from Philadelphia): The Mets sent the right-hander to the Dodgers right after the draft last December and Monasterios stuck in Los Angeles all season, save for a stint on the 15-day disabled list with a blister. He ended up being a valuable swing man, making 13 starts and 19 relief appearances. He was more effective overall coming out of the bullpen, with a 2.06 ERA, while he had a 5.91 ERA when helping out in the rotation.

Trading Draft Picks:

In other words, good players are valuable. Wow, really stating the obvious there. My point is that for a mere $4.5 million dollars invested in the draft, the Red Sox acquired sole rights to negotiate with Adrian Gonzalez and lock up an extremely valuable player without having to fight off the rest of the open market. They were able to do this because they drafted well and spent on talented players. The Red Sox farm system will not be majorly impacted by this trade because they drafted very well again this year, but I will cover that later. Many peope will see this as the rich getting richer, but I see it as the smart getting smarter. - mlbbonusbaby

Flores and Fonzy:

Magallanes 7, Margarita 5 - Nationals catcher Jesus Flores was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and former big leaguer Edgardo Alfonzo also had three hits and plated three runs as the Navegantes ended a three-game skid. Former Nats prospect Frank Diaz slugged a grand slam for the Bravos, who missed out on a chance to move into first place. - MLB
