Mack Draft: - Dallen Reber, Anthony Rendon , Tyler Anderson, Dan Vogelbach , and Stephen Tarpley

Freshman infielder Dallen Reber belted a three-run home run in game two of the Fall World Series. In an interview with College Baseball Daily head coach Gary Henderson listed freshman infielders Paul McConkey, J. T. Riddle and Matt Reida as standouts in fall camp. Henderson noted Reida was the most advanced defensive infielder of the group, though he probably profiles as a second baseman or shortstop. Junior college transfer Thomas McCarthy slugged two home runs and a double during game one of the Fall World Series. McCarthy batted .415 with three home runs and 36 RBI in 36 games for Feather River College in 2010. - http://blugrassbaseball.com/

•Rice JR 3B Anthony Rendon will be the first overall pick of the 2011 MLB Draft. Not exactly the boldest of statements, I know. This first prediction of 2011 is a tad lame at face value, so, if nothing else, consider it my personal attempt at curtailing some of this “the top of the 2011 draft is wide open” talk that I’ve read over the past few months. To me, this is a prediction that doesn’t really need to be made because Rendon going to Pittsburgh is as much of a lock as any projected pick can be six months out. However, this isn’t the universally accepted truth that I expected it to be by this point. Rendon is the best prospect in this year’s draft by a wide enough margin that I have to believe that there are only three realistic reasons why somebody would question it at this point… http://baseballdraftreport.com/

We continue the list today with number 22 with Oregon junior LHP Tyler Anderson. The Las Vegas, Nevada, native attended Spring Valley High School where he won four letters for Mike Gomez. The Minnesota Twins selected him in the 50th round of the 2008 MLB Draft but were not able to sign him. Tyler decided to join the revived Oregon program under George Horton. In Tyler’s freshman season in 2009, he struggled as a weekend starter going 2-9 with a 6.26 ERA in 15 starts totaling 82 innings. He started the season as the number 1 starter for the Ducks before settling in as the number 2 starter for the Pac-10 portion of the schedule - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2011/01/03/tyler-anderson-oregon-top-100-countdown/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+CollegeBaseballDaily+%28College+Baseball+Daily%29&utm_content=Twitter

Just last week, the fifth annual Power Showcase took place at Chase Field in Phoenix and Dan Vogelbach put on his own shown that resembled Bobby Abreu's performance in the 2005 major league version. Abreu hit a then-record 24 home runs in the first round on his way to beating Ivan Rodriguez. Vogelbach, a 2011 first baseman from Bishop Verot High in Fort Myers, crushed 19 home runs in his first round last week and added 11 in the championship round to win the Power Showcase's fifth annual derby. One of his home runs traveled 508 feet, a record for the event previously held by Travis Harrison (504 feet) and Harper (502 feet). - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/high-school/?p=366

Stephen Tarpley – LHP - Gilbert HS, Gilbert, Ariz. - Throwing exclusively out of the stretch, Tarpley boasted an upper-80s fastball with occasional arm-side life, touching the 90/91 mph range. His breaker is a mid-70s curve with a slurvy shape that flashes solid late action, and he shows some feel for an upper-70s change. While Tarpley is not a big body, his arm action is easy and he shows an ability to spot each of his offerings. There is some room to add to strength, and his three pitch mix gives him a chance to start at the pro level. http://diamondscapescouting.com/articles_2010acg_wraps_part1_11162010.html
