IMO… the Mets are not going to return to any level of respect, no less dominance, unless they get their ‘dream’ rotation up and running. We know that Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler will be part of this equation and there is a spot reserved for the other protected pitcher, Noah Syndergaard. Things aren’t perfect here. Harvey may still go under the knife while Thor won’t arrive until mid-season 2014 at best (my guess opening day 2015). This makes, for now, Jon Niese and Dillon Gee very valuable, but let’s stop talking outfielders long enough to consider adding innings-eater Bronson Arroyo to this team. You add this guy for two years and everything firms up real quick. Prospects like Rafael Montero become overnight trade bait and your starting rotation projects to produce a 3.50 or less ERA over an average of 7.0-IP per 2014 game. You do that, and you win a minimum of 15 more games. 15 more wins and the Mets would be 88-70 and the Mets would be two loses away from a wild card slot.
Jordany Valdespin was reinstated to the 40-man roster. General Manager Sandy Alderson was hoping this one would get past the beat reporters, but this is the kind of stuff they are paid for, right? Alderson was asked if Valdespin had a future with the Mets and he said no one had discussed that so far. Asked why, Alderson shot back: “maybe it's because Valdespin's future doesn't warrant convening a meeting." What am I missing here? Exactly what does this malcontent have on this team and its leaders? Valdespin is back pulling a paycheck and Frank Francisco was promoted to Queens. For what? I truly, truly do not understand what chess moves Alderson made here. You can’t let players like this be part of your team no matter how bad the season is going. Some spoke of a trade that never happened for Francisco and the Valdespin suspension should have been the last straw in a series of simply bad things done by this guy. The Mets players will never accept him back in the clubhouse and no team in baseball is going to trade another human being for him. Just cut him loose. He’d probably be a Marlin by the end of the week.

CBS is reportedly looking at keeping a New York morning radio team in the family by striking a deal to put sports “The Fan” WFAN-FM&AM (101.9, 660) hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on its sister CBS Sports Network. Quoting unnamed insiders, the New York Daily News says CBS will first need to outbid the Yankees-owned YES Network, which reportedly is also interested. I guess at some point we have to all just stop talking about this draft pick. especially since most of the top ranked prospects in the organization the last couple years were prospects that Sandy traded for, or are still around from the Minaya era.
It really is put up or shut up time for the GM and staff. The Mets won't need this pick if their pitching stays healthy, d'Arnoud hits like he is supposed to, and the few remaining top hitting and pitching at higher levels prospects pan out.

Ernest, I could't disagree more. Go out and pay a class A free agent big money and give up a top 12 to 13 pick is one step forward and 2 steps back. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Mets organization has played the last 2 weeks extremely hard to get out of the top 10 picks of the draft. Why on earth would you bring Wright back with 10 games left in the season? Making pitching changes late in the games as if they're playing for a playoff spot. The Wilpons want to pick #11 or worse to avoid spending money on class A free agents. Sweeping the Phillies and taking 2 out of 3 from the Reds has done nothing but set this organization back another year.
I agree that the mets need to add a legit starting pitcher. I jut don't think the mets, if they're seriously about contending, can afford to spend 10 million a year on a pitcher like Arroyo.
Arroyo has had a good year and is an innings eater, which has value. So he's going to command a decent contract. Because of this draft pick, I don't see the mets signing two top free agents. They may, Alderson just stated he isn't worried about the draft next year when it comes to building the 2014 team, and that is great.
If that's truly the case, I'd hope they go out and get themselves two good bats and another good starter. That starter or possibly Gee could become trade bait in July. But my hope is that they hold onto their pitching prospects at all costs unless a guy like Stanton becomes available. The thought of signing Arroyo so that they could make Montero available isn't very appealing to me.
Montero has pitched brilliantly and his future is bright. He will become a a number 3 starter that won't be needed in that role. He'll Mostar likely occupy a slot in the back end of the rotation, which will make the Mets extremely strong compared to other teams. I just wouldn't want to change that in order to bring in a pitcher like Arroyo, who isn't getting any younger and has a lot of miles on his arm.
The last time I counted the Mets had 10 starting pitchers from which to choose plus they are likely leading contenders to bring the surprising Dice-K back for a spring audition.

Even when Harvey is out for next year the Mets still have Wheeler, Niese, Gee and Mejia. Torres can fill in for Montero for a few starts so the Mets can have the extra year of control.
DeGrom and Gorski need on the 40 man roster this winter so they can be depth in Las Vegas and Torres can make a spot start out of the pen when needed.

Mets are near bottom in NL in runs against, and have been in that neighborhood for the past 4 years. The status of the Mets best starter and closer for 2014 is very uncertain. Four of the pitchers on your list have never thrown a pitch in the majors, and six on the list will be on some type of innings limit in 2014. If they are to be taken seriously, the Mets need to spend on a legit MLB starter and a legit MLB back end reliever in addition to spending on the offense.

Regarding Spin, there is no reason to release him right now. Maybe they will, but there is a possibility that they can include him as a throw in for a deal which would allow them to keep someone else that would have otherwise been included in the deal.
I agree they should spend on bats . I'm all for that. I also wouldn't be pissed if they spend to get more pitching either though. Pitching is like gold. Whoever has the surplus can always fill their needs.
I just don't think Arroyo is the answer. Why him?
Wine and dine the bats, sign them up, and then go after some pitching.
