September 9th - Nats 9, Mets 0

Mets 992013

Monday night at Citi Field Gio Gonzales went the distance on a 1 hitter and the Nationals hit 5 home runs….as they beat the Mets 9-0. Gonzales nearly had a no-no.  He dealt six no hit innings, but in the bottom of the 7th Zach Lutz lead off with a pinch hit single to break the spell and that’s all the Mets  were allowed. For the Nationals it was long balls a plenty, hitting 5 on the night. Met starter Carlos Torres yielded 4 of them.  Denard Span led off the game with a homer, a batter later Ryan Zimmerman connected and it was 2-nothing Nats. In the 3rd Jason Werth hit a three run bomb off Torres scoring Zimmerman and Span and it was 5-zip.  In the 4th Tyler Moore ended the scoring on Torres with a solo shot.  In the 5th Wilson Ramos connected on a final 3 run blast off Greg Burke and the laugher was on. Gonzales got his 2nd career complete game and his first 1-hitter. He went 9 allowing the hit, he walked 2 and struck out 8. He got the win improving to 10-6. Torres takes the loss falling to 3-4 going 4 allowing 5 hits all 6 earned runs he walked 2 and struck out 4.  The Mets fall to 64-78 on the year and 28-39 at home. Tuesday night it’s game two of the series.  Dillon Gee (11-9  3.53) goes for the Mets. Jordan Zimmerman (16-8  3.30) goes for Washington. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
