You just
can’t keep having your rotation pitchers hand over a victory baseball to a
group of pitchers that are costing this team any chance of going to the
playoffs.
Even the
majority of runs charged to Jenrry Mejia in his
last outing were thrown by Carlos Torrez (2.55).
After
last night, the most effective pitcher recently (Scott
Rice) has a 4.91 ERA. Daisuke Matsuzaka (3.48)
was your poster boy before last night’s eighth inning.
Sandy Alderson hinted
this week that both Rafael Montero and Jake deGrom could soon be moving to the ‘Las Vegas’
pen. Has anyone noticed how this team is losing baseball games lately?
Las Vegas
is also the current home for Vic Black, who has
only given up one earned run since being reassigned there, and also Zack Thornton, recently acquired from the Pittsburgh
Pirates in the Ike Davis deal.
The ‘old
man’ approach that the current Mets have been applying seems to be developing
some major issues. You just can’t keep throwing away these ‘sure win’
situations.
Come on
Sandy… fuck the 40-man and Power-2 of whatever the hell you call it. Get some
new blood up here now and let’s support the rotation.

The problem with Black is he's walked 10 in 10 IP.
Socolovich and Carreño are doing the best jobs there but neither is on the 40-man roster. You could cut Valverde to make room.
I think it might be time to add DeGrom to the 25. I guess I'd roll the dice with Black even though he hasn't been throwing strikes. Vegas is a funny place to pitch. It wouldn't shock me if Black performed better in Queens than he has been doing in LV.
To clarify, first Black then DeGrom.

he is very good through the order the first two times. He has that natural movement on his fastball and has improved his strike zone command.
This could then open a starting spot for Montero.
The Mets have all the ingredients of a good bullpen pitching AA and AAA right now...But theres no way we see any of them until mid June....
The important first step in my opinion is moving Mejia into the closer role...I hate that the Mets have messed with this guy so much already...but it really is the best spot for him..
On another note...why not try to sign Hanrahan?? Tigers signed him for just 1 million....I'd much rather see a veteran presence in the pen that can actually pitch....Valverde and Farnsworth are terrible, and I predict when the Mets finally do cut them both...that neither one gets an offer from any other MLB club...

Time to do something : Black for Valverde-DFA, Socolovich for Germen or Familia(Parnell to 60-day DL ), Florez for Quintanilla DFA, Lutz for Satin.

I read what all you have said and you'd have to rebuild this pitching staff and you still wouldn't have enough ingredients. The Mets have three Latin power pitchers that could have been like the St. Cards bullpen... Familia, Mejia, and Germen... but they just haven't been placed 7-8-9 and left alone for two years to do that job,
I think those of you that call for Mejia to close are right. He tops out at around 60 excellent pitches.
You then build a current back end around that.
Let me throw one more thing out here while we're talking about the back end of the bullpen.
We all know that the Mets have plenty of good young pitchers, regardless whether they are starters or relievers.
You don't have to sell off your assets... you just have to reassign some and build around those reassignments.
Put Rafael Montero and Jenrry Mejia on the back-end of this pen.
Keep Carlos Torres, Scott Rice, Gnzalez Germen, and Jeurys Familia
Add Zack Thornton.
Put deGrom in the SP5.
Would be nice if mets pitchers, starter or reliever, did two things:
Throw strikes (especially when you are up 3 runs)
Throw it in the damn dirt when its 0-2/1-2 count................

from what I have read, deGrom is another pitcher that has a lot of natural movement on his fastball. In his case it sinks.
Montero however has less velocity on his fastball, but has much better control of his other pitches.
To me, Montero seems a bit more of a Tom Glavine like pitcher. A pitcher that control the strike zone with his command of all of his pitches.
Given Montero's success last year when he filled in for a few starts on the major league club, I would think he is a better fit for the Starters position.
Also, hasn't deGrom's pitch count over the past few years been less than Montero? If the organization is sticking to the pitch count % increase philosophy, wouldn't that make deGrom a better fit for the bullpen?

You may be right, but Montero is a strike machine which is what I want at the back end of my pen. They both sit around 94.
The important thig is we are talking about two pitchers that are ready to pitch at the major league level and this team just won't pull the trigger.
I also need to say this...
deGrom wasn't that special when he came through Savannah... Montero has always been electric
ok... now that we have solved all of the pitching worries...
its time to move on.........
How do we get Giancarlo Stanton?
just think of how this line-up changes just by adding this one guy.....

Writing about trading for players like Tulo and Stanton are just pipe dreams.
The Mets have very few players that could attract a General Manager to make a deal for guys like this. Bat wise, it would take Wright and Miami would have nothing to do with his contract. Harvey is damaged goods , Wheeler hasn't delivers, and Syndergaard is unknown.
The Mets will never see these kind of players unless they are willing to shell out huge contracts when they become eligible for free agency

only way to get Stanton would be through free agency in a few years and if Alderson is still gm...

In the offseason the Mets made offers to relievers Joe Smith, Grant Balfour, and Fernando Rodney....If they were able to sign any one of those three then theres a good chance we wouldn't be having this conversation..
If the Seven blown saves the mets currently have could have been cut down to four, then the Mets would be 19-12, sitting in first place in the NL East...
It comes down to, what it always comes down to with this team....they got in a standoff with a player over a couple million dollars...and ended up signing two washed up players that no other team wanted instead....

You and I approach this game different.
I simply can't look back and say 'what if'...
Someone in this front office has to realize that they do not have enough talent on the current 25-man to sustain a playoff push. They need more (different) players with better results.
I mentioned Vic Black earlier and yes, the first think I'm hit with is the amount of walks he has given up... in the past... I don't care about what he or Thornton, deGrom, or Montero have done in the past. I want them pitching for this team now and in the future. If Black walks too many people, fine, give the ball to the next guy. It's early May and no one in the NL is running away with anything.
I will tell you one thing that I will stand on and I'm allowed to because I qualify as one of these guys... OLD GUYS BREAK DOWN... and they will not get you to the dance.
