5/6/14

May 6, 2014 -- Marlins 3, Mets 0

Tuesday night in Miami, Henderson Alvarez dominated the Mets throwing a complete game 6 hit shutout as the Marlins beat the Mets 3-0. The Marlins took a 2 zip lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Giancarlo Stanton and an RBI single by Casey McGehee off Mets starter Bartolo Colon. Colon, who got battered around in Colorado in his last outing settled in after escaping the first. He went 7, he allowed 7 hits 3 runs, all earned he walked 1 and struck out 5. Colon yielded the 3rd run in the 5th on another RBI single by McGehee. Offensively for the Mets it was a quiet night as they only mustered 6 hits in the form of three doubles. Two by Daniel Murphy and one by Juan Legares and singles by David Wright, Lucas Duda and Travis d’Arnaud. Jose Valverde pitched a scoreless 8th inning after Colon was pulled. Alvarez allowed the 6 hits and struck out 7 getting the win. He's now 2-2-. Colon falls to 2-5. The Mets lose their 2nd straight and now stand at 16-16 on the year and 8-8 on the road. Wednesday afternoon they look to salvage the get-a-way game. Zach Wheeler (1-3 5.13) goes for the Mets. Tim Koehler (3-2 2.41) goes for Miami.
