5/7/14

Mets Minor League Report: May 6, 2014

MMLR Player of the Day: Binghamton 1B Jayce Boyd

I would like to include Jack Leathersich in the PotD award, but it is hard to justify on a single inning of relief.

Las Vegas (22-10) nips Salt Lake (13-20) 7-6.

Starter Dana Eveland was pulled after 3.0 innings: 4 R, 5 H, (2 HR)
Erik Goeddel (W, 2-1) was sharp: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, BB, K.
Joel Carreno wasn’t: 2.1 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB.
Three pitchers then combined to hold the Bees scoreless the rest of the way. Zack Thornton (0.2 IP) and Josh Edgin (1.0 IP) were perfect, while Vic Black (S, 3) allowed 3 hits in pitching the 9th inning.

Wilmer Flores had a very good night: 2-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R. (hitting .296) Flores did make a throwing error playing SS, his 7th this year.
Allan Dykstra: 1-2, HR, 2 BB, 2 RBI, R.
Juan Centeno: 3-4, HR, RBI, 2 R.

New Hampshire (14-16) again tops Binghamton (14-14) 6-4.

Hansel Robles (L 1-1) got hit hard: 5.1 IP, 5 R, 7 H, BB, 4 K.
Cody Satterwhite: 1.2 IP, R, H, K.
Jack Leathersich was perfect: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K. This was the Leathersich we have been waiting to see for a long time.

Matt Reynolds: 2-5.
Matt Clark: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, R.
Wilfredo Tovar: 2-3, 2B, RBI. (has his AVG up yo .350.
Jayce Boyd: 4-4, HR, 2 2B, RBI, 2 R. This was the Boyd we’ve been waiting to see since the start of the season.

Charlotte (16-16) bombs St. Lucie (18-14) 9-5.

Steven Matz walked too many, but didn‘t pay for it: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 2 K.
Jake Kuebler, (BS, 1) (L, 1-1) usually solid, tonight couldn‘t get it done: 2.0 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 3 H, BB, K.
Julian Hilario was ineffective as well: 1.0 IP, 3 R, 3 H, (HR) BB, K.

Dilson Herrera: 2-4, BB, 2 RBI.
Jairo Perez: 2-4, HR, RBI, R.
Maikis De La Cruz: 2-4, HR, RBI, R.

Savannah (20-9) not scheduled.

I agree. Great to see Boyd and Leather click last nite. Edgin too. Call Flores up after today's game...how can any team win when 7-8-9 hit a combined .140? Get a hot bat (Flores) in there

Thomas-

I think I hears Gary Cohen or Kevin Burkhart say that the Mets seemed to be giving up on the Flores SS experiment. He is still playing the position daily for Vegas, so I don't know how much credibility there is. But I would definitely cann Wilmer up, unless Sandy has goot Drew sewn up for a June signing. Even so, maybe Wilmr should be up there to play the position now, and then back up if they sign Drew.
