5/6/14

Mets Minor League Report: May 5, 2014

MMLR Players of the Day: Savannah Relievers Akeel Morris & Robert Coles

Las Vegas (21-9) tops Tacoma (14-13) 7-5, completing suspended game.

Rafael Montero pitched well but will get a no-decision: 5.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 6 K.
Jeff Walters (BS, 2) (W, 2-1) faltered, blew the save but got the win: 1.0 IP, 2 R, 3 H, BB, K.
Vic Black (S, 2) was perfect in the bottom of the 7th. (K)

Wilmer Flores continues his climb: 1-3, HR, BB, 3 RBI, R. (AVG up to .290)
Brandon Allen: 2-2, HR, 2 BB, RBI, 2 R.
Andrew Brown: 1-3, HR, BB, 3 RBI, R.

Las Vegas (21-10) falls to Tacoma (15-13) 3-2 in regularly scheduled game.

Noah Syndergaard, with a quality start, was nevertheless a bit too hittable and walked more than he should: 5.2 IP, R, 7 H, 3 BB, 8 K.
Josh Edgin didn’t do any harm, giving up a hit and a walk in 0.1 innings.
Miguel Socolovich: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 2 H.
Jeff Walters, (BS, 3) (L, 2-2) for the 2nd night in a row, blew a save, this time coming away with the loss. Walters gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks without getting an out in the 9th inning. (Doesn’t anyone take a pitcher out when it is obvious that he doesn’t have it after facing 2 or 3 batters?)

Eric Campbell (0-2, R) scored the 51’s first run after walking, taking 3rd on a Wilmer Flores (1-4) single, and coming home on a Nick Franklin error, attempting to force Flores on Allan Dykstra’s (0-3, RBI) grounder.
Taylor Teagarden scored the go ahead run on a solo home run, his team leading 7th, in the top of the 9th inning. It was to no avail after Walters unravelled in the bottom of the inning.

New Hampshire (13-16) stymies Binghamton (14-13) 5-0.

Tyler Pill (L 0-5) pitched well enough to get his first win, but instead got his fifth loss when the Mets faiked to score: 5.0 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 H, (HR) BB, 3 K.
John Church: 1.2 IP, H, K.
T.J. Chism: 1.1 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2 K.

Matt Reynolds: 2-3, BB.

St. Lucie (18-13) stops Charlotte (15-16) 5-2.

Gabriel Ynoa (W, 3-2) was back on track: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 K.
Paul Sewald, dominant as usual, but for some reason having difficulty finding the plate so far in this short season: 1.0 IP, BB, 4 K. (ERA down to 0.61)
Beck Wheeler (S, 3) could hardly be better: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 K.

Although Dilson Herrera, Brandon Nimmo and T.J. Rivera all had o-fers tonight, others came through.
Jairo Perez: 2-3, 2B, 3B, 3 R, SB.
Cam Maron: 0-2, 2 BB, RBI, 2 R.
Aderlin Rodriguez: 2-4, RBI.

Savannah (20-9) rips Rome (9-22) 5-1.

Kevin McGowan was a little shaky: 5.2 IP, R, 0 ER, 6 H, 4 BB, 5 K.
Akeel Morris (W, 3-0) continues his hot run: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K.
Robert Coles (S, 5) follows suit: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 2 H.
Both Morris and Coles are unscored upon so far this season.

Gavin Cecchini: 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI.
Stefan Sabol: 2-3, HR, BB, RBI, 2 R.
Dominick Smith: 2-3, BB, R. (This was Smith‘s 6th multi hit game in his last 10, during which time he has now raised his average 81 points to .245.)

Can we please call up Morris...

Michi -

Do you have his phone number? Seriously, though, do you mean call him up to St. Lucie? He is certainly too far away and inexperienced to consider for a MLB call up.
