UPDATED INJURY UPDATE - RHSP - Jeff Hoffman

Something is wrong with East Carolina RHP Jeff Hoffman. Scouting sources have confirmed that he will not be pitching this weekend. This isn’t good for his draft chances. Most of the mock drafts have had him in the top five picks and some as high as number two. We’ll update this when we find out what is wrong.

ECU right-hander Jeff Hoffman will have season ending Tommy John surgery next week. Visited Dr. Andrews on Monday

This is not good. If he's hurt enough to knock him out of the top ten, it decreases our chances at Turner, Gordon, Gettys, Zimmer, etc.

I have some calls out and will update this when I find out what's going on.

Oh bad luck for the Mets. Isnt he the 2nd pitcher with top 10 potential who goes down with a injury?

I still have a feeling Michael Gettys or Touki Toussaint go crazy and vault back into the top 10.

I fear Mets will regret losing the 7th pick due to their meaningless, come-from-behind win on the last day of last season. Francisco's only save of 2013 was entirely unwanted... And possibly quite costly.

The best part about the baseball draft is no one knows what they are going to do.

Case in point... let's say Nick Gordon and Trae Turner both go early... now a team has a guy like Jacob Gatewood around 20-25 on their sheet, but they know that if they don't take him, the fall off to the next shortstop in the second round could be big...

This is how players move up the draft.

Toussaint and Gettys have always had the early press, but they just don't play in enough games as a junior to excite people.

Thomas -

At some point you just have to stop over-analyzing all this and just be happy that there are 20 stud players in this draft and the difference between who will be picked 7th or 10th is zero.

Well said. The Mets would have to do something crazy to mess this one up.

And the Mets never do anything crazy?

Hah, it's a good point.

Thing is, if they reach and take a Mike Papi or a Reid-Foley, they could end up with the best player in the draft when it's all said and done. There's seriously a ridiculous amount of talent in this draft and this could be an instance where a Trout is found by a team picking late on day one.

tough break with just a month to go until draft day....I wonder if some team will take him in the 2nd or 3rd round and try to sign him over slot---Too bad the Mets don't think aggressivly like that.

same thing happened to Liolito and, off the top of my head, I think he was picked 17th overall.

He will not be around when the Mets pick at #85
