April 17th 2015 -- Mets 4, Marlins 1

Bartolo Colon pitched 7 strong innings Friday night improving to 3-0 as the Mets win their 6th straight by beating the Marlins 4-1.

Just as on Thursday, Giancarlo Stanton gave the Marlins a 1st inning lead with a homer. This time a solo shot (2) and it was 1-0 Miami.  David Phelps held that lead until the bottom of the 5th when Colon, who got his 1st RBI in 10 years in his last start, hit a sac-fly to score Eric Campbell and tie the game at 1. In the 6th the Mets got to Brad Hand scoring twice. Michael Cuddyer’s RBI infield single scored Juan Lagares to make it 2-1. Then Campbell connected on a sac-fly to make it 3-1 Mets.

In the bottom of the 8th Cuddyer and Daniel Murphy had back to back doubles, with Murphs driving in Cuddyer to make it 4-1. Colon went 7 allowing just 6 hits, the 1 run (earned) and he struck out 5. He’s now 3-0 with a 2.25 era on the young season.

Danny Muno made his Met debut as a pinch hitter in the 7th and singled off the hip of Sam Dyson for his first MLB hit and he also stole his first MLB base.  Hand takes the loss failing to 0-1.  Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless 8th and Jeurrys Familia struck out 2 in the 9th for his 5th save (his 5th in 6 days).

Before the game Lagares was officially awarded his 2014 Gold Glove and then went on to make a pair of spectacular plays in center.

The Mets improve to 8-3 overall and are now 5-0 at home for the first time since the 2005 season. It's also the Mets first 6 game wining streak in 4 years. Saturday night it’s game three of the set. Jacob deGrom (1-1 1.46) goes for the Mets, Mat Latos (0-2 17.36) goes for the Fish.

725 people sad that Mejia is not closing for the Mets.
That's how many MLB players have to worry about Familia. He is looking like he really wants that closer role.

Mack, who was that guy getting a hit and a steal in his first major league at bat? MOO-NO!

I seem to remember some guy last year writing about a guy by the same name - most bloggers thought he'd never make it out of AAA.

Thomas, of course you were right. You write about EVERY minor leaguer with enthusiasm.
