Sunday night the Yankees scored 4 runs in the bottom of the
2nd inning and the Mets made 4 errors and a couple of mental
mistakes as the Yankees take two out of three in the weekend series beating the
Mets 6-4. Curtis Granderson got the Mets
off to a fast start by leading off the game with a solo homer off Nathan
Eovaldi, his 1st on the year, to make it 1-0 Mets. Daniel Murphy
then hit an RBI double scoring Juan Lagares and it was 2-0 Mets. In the bottom of the 1st A-Rod hit
an opposite field homer off Jonathon Niese to make it 2-1; in the bottom of the
2nd doubles by J.R. Murphy,
Gregorio Petit and Brett Gardner brought home two runs gave the Yanks the lead
for good at 3-2. Chris Young’s infield
single scored Gardner to make it 4-2 and then Michael Cuddyer’s throwing error
on a Alex Rodriguez double allowed Young to score and it was 5-2. The Mets answered back in the third scoring
twice off Eovaldi on an RBI double by Cuddyer and a RBI double by Daniel Murphy
and it was 5-4. It the 5th a
throwing error by Wilmer Flores allowed the Yanks final run to come home. Niese went 5 inning allowing 8 hits 6 runs (4
earned) he walked 1 and struck out 3. He takes the loss falling to 2-1. Eovaldi left in the 5th inning.
The combined Yankee Bullpen of Chasen Shreve, Chris Martin, Justin Wilson,
Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller combined for 4 2/3 hit-less relief. Miller
pitched the 9th for this 7th save. Shreve was credited with the win, he’s 1-0. Erick
Goeddel pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief, Alex Torres 1 scoreless frame
for the Mets. With the loss the Mets
fall to 14-5 on the year and 4-5 on the road. Monday night the Mets are in Miami to start a
3 game set with the Marlins. Dillon Gee (0-1 5.60) goes for the Mets coming off
his best start of the year. Jarred Cosart (1-1 3.63) goes for Miami.
