The Binghamton Mets surrendered a season-high 20 hits and fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 10-5, on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Every Fisher Cat collected at least one hit, including seven multiple-hit efforts, to hand the B-Mets their third straight loss.
After Binghamton plated a run in the first, the Fisher Cats started their offensive onslaught in the bottom of the inning, plating a run on three hits against Luis Cessa. Following a Melky Mesa’s two-out triple off the right-field wall, KC Hobson dumped an RBI single into shallow right, tying the game at one.
After Cessa stranded five runners in the next three innings, the Fisher Cats finally broke through with three runs in the fifth. Hobson ripped an RBI single into right to plate Dwight Smith Jr. with the go-ahead run, and three batters later, Jack Murphy brought in two more with a two-out single to right.
New Hampshire blew the game open by hanging five runs on reliever Jake Kuebler in the sixth. Hobson and Fox provided RBI singles while Ryan Schimpf launched a three-run homer. The Fisher Cats added another run off Chase Huchingson in the seventh.
Binghamton had owned a brief lead after getting on the board against Matt Boyd in the first. Jared King led off the game by blooping a double down the right-field line and scored two batters later when Jayce Boyd ripped a single into left.
Matt Boyd (1-1) settled down after Jayce Boyd’s RBI single in the first and surrendered just two hits against the next 19 B-Mets batters he faced. The lefty finished with six strikeouts over 6-1/3 innings to earn his first win of the season.
Trailing by a half-dozen, Binghamton scored two in the seventh on an RBI double by Dustin Lawley and a run-producing single by Jairo Perez. The B-Mets added two more in the ninth on a balk and a King sac fly.
Cessa (1-1) matched a career-high by allowing eleven hits in the losing effort. He was touched for four runs over five innings of work.
