The St. Lucie Mets put on a hit parade in their season opening 7-2 victory over the Bradenton Marauders on Thursday at Tradition Field.
The Mets bashed out 18 hits against the Marauders. Seven of the nine Mets in the lineup had multiple hits, and young prospects Amed Rosario and Jhoan Urena each went 3 for 5.
Starter Robert Gsellman limited the Maraduers to one run on seven hits in 5.1 innings. He threw 87 pitches, 60 for strikes.
The Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by Colton Plaia that scored Rosario. Urena scored later in the inning when pitcher Cody Dickson's pickoff throw to first was mishandled.
The Mets made it 4-0 in the third on back-to-back RBI singles from Rosario and Urena.
Dickson only lasted three innings and was tagged for four runs on nine hits.
Champ Stuart hit the Mets' first home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth that made it 5-1.
An RBI triple by Urena and sac fly by Stuart in the seventh capped the scoring for the Mets.
Relievers Kyle Regnault, Robert Coles and Mike Hepple finished out the game. Coles pitched the only 1-2-3 inning of the game in the eighth. The two teams combined for 31 hits and stranded 24 runners.
Michael Conforto, the Mets' 2014 first round draft pick, went 2 for 4. Dominic Smith, the Mets' 2013 first round pick, also went 2 for 4.
The Mets (1-0) and Marauders (0-1) continue their four-game series on Friday at Tradition Field. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. and there will be a postgame fireworks show. - team press release

As Ernest mentioned in another thread, this site is filled with Met Minor League Junkies, who have spent the past few years drooling over all of the arms, but it looks like STL could provide a new kind of fix for the jones with the offensive potential. I think there is value in moving groups of players up together to build some bonding in advance of ML promotions and having Conforto, Smith, Rosario, Urena, Stuart and even Cruzado taking the field together every day hopefully can generate some momentum for one another, much like Matz and Thor in AAA.
It looks like I am moving to San Francisco July 1 (Mets are in town my first week!!) and I had planned on investing in MLB.TV, but I think I am going to add in MILB.TV as well because I am very interested to see how these bats develop, along with Reynolds, Herrara, Plawecki and yes, my breakout candidates Cecchini and Becerra
I think this is going to be another fun year on the Mets farm.
