The Mets chose 2B/SS Andrew Ely in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft. 32nd round - 2014 - Cubs 2017: AA - 282-AB, .259/.355/.355/720, 3-HR, 25-RBI
Mets lose LHP Juan Carlos Medina in MiL Rule 5. Once high on him (0.35 ERA, 0.79 WHIP in 52 IP as a 17 yr old) but plagued with injuries since (150 IP in last 4 yrs). Wish JC well.
I'm with Thomas on Ely. Why in the world would they waste a pick on a 25 yr old infielder who can't hit his way out of a paper bag? Don't we have enough of them?
Hmmm. Unless he is related to that guy, Ron Ely, who played Tarzan. Maybe they think he has swinging skills that are yet undiscovered.

Unimpressive numbers for Ely - a puzzler

Hobie, Medina will never play in the baseball Mecca known as Citifield as a NY Met, it appears.
Thomas-
It took a few clicks of the machinery before I got the Medina pun... but of course I knew you jihad to do it.

Minor league filler, nothing more. If he blossoms, it's a steal. If not, only a little cash lost.
Ely is a AAAA fill.
As strange as it seems, we have no one scheduled to play 2B in Binghamton until this signing.
Guillorme, McNeill, and Burdick are past it. Pael and Sergakis won't be ready.
