Mack - 2019 Mets Transactions, Kudos, and Slotting

AA-Binghamton ‘Red’ Chip and Mack’s Mets #1 prospect, Anthony Kay, threw a three hit (7-IP) shutout, striking out eight, and lowering his seasonal ERA to 1.24. He’s had eight starts so far this season, has given up six earned runs and four of them was in one game. Since that game, Kay has given up 2-ER in 30.2-IP. The only thing that might hold up a promotion at this point was the amount of starts, but, for me… get him to Syracuse so we can prime him for a trip to Queens in September.

In the nightcap, AA-Binghamton’s SP David Peterson, pitched a very respectable 5.0-IP 1-ER, 7-K, 0-BB. He lowered his seasonal ERA to 2.25. As we all know, Peterson has stumbled early in this season, but, in the last three starts (15.2-IP), he’s given up only 3-ER. ERA down to 4.55.

Two more scoreless innings for AA-Binghamton RP, Ryley Gilliam, in the nightcap last night. ERA now down to 2.25, but, let’s remember, all five runs be has given up this season have come in two games (4-24 Lakeland, 5-4 Portland). He has thrown 0.00 in the other eight games stretching over two teams, the B-Mets and St. Lucie.

You want a walk off grand slam? Well, AA-Binghamton 1B Patrick Mazeika (.250) went yard in the bottom of the seventh to seal the doubleheader win. Maybe this is a sign of his hot bat’s return.

Slotting By Position

           Here’s how the pros look to the future of their team.

Here are the current five starters on the team and the last year they are under contract. Following their name is the current Mets minor league pitcher that is projected to be ‘next man up’ from the chain.

Vargas         -     2019      -     Anthony Kay

Wheeler        -     2019      -     David Peterson

Syndergaard   -     2021       -     Thomas Szapucki

Matz           -     2021      -     Tony Dibrell

DeGrom        -     2023      -     (too early to determine)

Is this enough? The Kay and Szapucki additions look to be top dog, but I currently question the other two. Dibrell has to do more to make me feel he has the potential to be a successful major league pitcher… and current scouts project Peterson as a run of the mill AAAA starter.

But… this is how the pros look at their future and this is currently a view into the future of our rotation (boy, this was to be so much easier when you could add the name Dunn here…).

My thoughts?  This screams for at least one more negotiated contract past their end date. My choice would be Syndergaard.

Wednesday, May 15^th –

    

     A+ St. Lucie reassigned P Luc Rennie to Low-A Brooklyn. The 25-year old’s career is going in the wrong direction. He pitched six starts this season for St. lucie, but his seasonal ERA was 5.02. Now, he’s not even on an active team.

     A+ St. Lucie activated P Thomas Mcllraith from the 7-day IL. Mcllraith was once a starter but was converted to the pen in 2017 for Brooklyn after a season full of injuries. He had 28 appearances for St. Lucie last year (4.38) and hasn’t thrown pitch this season before this activation.

     A-Columbia transferred OF Yoel Romero (.133) to Low-A Brooklyn.

     In return, A+ St. Lucie transferred IF Hansel Moreno (.124) to A-Columbia

           Kudos –

1B/C Patrick Mazeika continues to drive up his batting average for AA-Binghamton, going 3-6, HR, 6-RBI, .269. Mazeika does seem to be streaky and it would be nuice if he could level off this year above .300.

The top five batters in the B-Mets lineup on Wednesday (Alcantara, Gimenez, Haggerty, Barnes, and Mazeika) had a combined 13 hits is 21 at-bats.

Five AAA-Syracuse relief pitchers combined to pitch a 3-hit shutout in the nightcap of a doubleheader. It included two more scoreless innings from the 0.00 twins, P.J. Conlon and Stephen Villines.

A-Columbia CF Hansel Moreno went 3-5, 2-R, RBI, HR after being demoted from A+ St. Lucie earlier that day.

A-Columbia starter, Colin Holderman, continues to impress this season: 5.0-IP 1-ER, 1.76.
