PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (May 28, 2019) – The St. Lucie Mets stayed hot on offense coming out of Memorial Day, as they outslugged the Jupiter Hammerheads 8-5 on Tuesday at First Data Field.

The Mets set season highs in runs (12) and hits (18) on Sunday vs. Lakeland. They followed that up with eight runs and 12 mores hits against the Hammerheads. The top four hitters in the Mets order – Jacob Zanon, Blake Tiberi, Jeremy Vasquez and Quinn Brodey – all had two-hit games.

Manny Rodriguez also went 2 for 4 with two RBI to extend his hitting streak to eight games.

Carlos Cortes hit a tie-breaking two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

The Mets bullpen logged 4.1 innings and only surrendered one run. Carlos Hernandez got the win while Blake Taylor earned his FSL-leading seventh save with a scoreless ninth.

The Mets opened up a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Vasquez knocked a RBI single, Cortes drew a bases-loading walk and Rodriguez ripped a two-run single.

The Hammerheads fought back to tie the game in the fifth. Lazaro Alonso hit a two-out, two-run double off the top of the wall to make it 4-4.

Cortes gave the Mets the lead for good when he launched a two-out, two-run homer against Jupiter starter Trevor Rogers in the bottom of the fifth. It was Cortes’ team-high fourth home run of the season.

Vasquez and Brodey belted back-to-back run-scoring hits with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-5 and chase Rogers from the game.

The loss was the 10th straight for Jupiter. The Mets have won two in a row and three of their last four.
