Brian Joura Mets360.com: Corey Oswalt was called up from the alternate site to replace David Peterson, who hit the IL with shoulder trouble. Oswalt did better than the other replacement starters here lately, as he went 4.1 IP and allowed just two runs. He also had four whiffs and didn’t allow a walk.

SNY.TV: Mets' manager Luis Rojas discusses Corey Oswalt's surprise start. Oswalt made his first MLB start in almost two years (September 28, 2018). "Right after the first batter of the game, (Jonathan) Villar, he went after him, and that's all he did," said manager Luis Rojas. "After that, he was pretty much under control throwing the ball. Mixing his pitches, keeping the ball down, effectively down, he gave us a lot."

Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: Mets offense clicks on all cylinders as Corey Oswalt limits the damage vs. Marlins.  “If Tuesday night was a test for Corey Oswalt to continue starting for the Mets, he just may have passed…The right-hander went 4.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts in the Mets’ 8-3 win over the Marlins. Tuesday night was the most encouraging outing the Amazin’s had seen from Oswalt this year.”

Metstradamus Welcome To The Party, Amed: With the lead at a fragile 3-2, Rosario crushed a ball into what might have been the Clevelander had Derek Jeter just left well enough alone to make it 4-2. Then after a Dom Smith bases loaded walk in the 8th to make it 5-2, Rosario blew it open with a two run single to make it 7-2, and provide the needed comfort for an 8-3 victory.”

Newsday: Brandon Nimmo's solid night leads Mets to second straight win over Marlins. “Nimmo went 3-for-5 and finished a double short of hitting for the cycle. He hit the first of three solo homers for New York, which had four home runs on Monday. The Mets have scored 19 runs in their last two games.”

SNY.TV: Mets takeaways in Tuesday's 8-3 win over Marlins, including Amed Rosario's big night. “Rosario recorded season-high three RBI…Dominic Smith extended his hitting streak to seven games when he drove in a run with an opposite field ground rule double in the fourth inning. Throughout the streak, he is hitting .429 (12-28) (.440 (11-for-25) with 12 RBI, and has at least one RBI in all but one of those games.”

Amazing Avenue: Final Score: Mets 8, Marlins 3 - Fish Fry. A strong bullpen performance, and a big eighth inning, gave the Mets their second win in as many days.

SNY.TV: Mets place David Peterson on IL due to shoulder fatigue, make flurry of roster moves.  Corey Oswalt, who was recalled from the alternate training site, will start on Tuesday in place of Peterson. The Mets also optioned Franklyn Kilomé to the alternate site and recalled Drew Smith.

Monday also marked the second time this season that Shreve recorded a line of at least two innings pitched with five strikeouts, which is a feat a Met reliever has not accomplished since Aaron Heilman back in 2005.”

Thomas Hall Metsmerized.com: Luis Guillorme Has Altered Approach Against Fastballs in 2020. “What’s encouraging about this recent stretch from Guillorme has been his ability to hit for plenty of contact against fastballs, which he hasn’t been able to do consistently in the major leagues prior to this season. While he still hasn’t barreled up any heaters just yet, the lefty has generated much more hard-contact and a considerably higher line drive rate against them.”

MLB Trade Rumors: Ian Gibaut, Chris Woodward Suspended Over Machado/Tatis Incident.  Major League Baseball has suspended Rangers right-hander Ian Gibaut three games and manager Chris Woodward one game for a controversial incident Monday that saw Gibaut throw behind Padres star Manny Machado.  Gibaut and Woodward were also both fined.  Gibaut is appealing his suspension while Woodward will serve his suspension for today’s game.

Citing poor attendance as the reason, Giants' president Horace Stoneham, ignoring baseball's edict of banning announcements about relocation of franchises until after the World Series, informs the press the club has signed a lease to play its home games in San Francisco next season. The club's Board of Directors voted 8-1 approving the shift to the West Coast, with the only dissenting vote cast by M. Donald Grant, who will become the chairman of the Mets, an expansion team located in New York to fill the National League void created by the departure of the Giants and Dodgers to California.

1969
In the bottom of 14th inning, Tommie Agee hits a one-out walk-off homer off Giants’ starter Juan Marchial in the Mets’ 1-0 victory at Shea Stadium. Tug McGraw tosses four scoreless frames for the win after Gary Gentry pitches the first ten, keeping San Francisco off the board on just four hits.
2012
Gio Gonzalez, with his 16th victory, sets a team record when Washington beats the Mets at Nationals Park, 5-2. The 26 year-old southpaw, obtained in an offseason trade with Oakland, surpasses Livan Hernandez, who in 2005 posted a 15-10 record in the Nats' inaugural season in the nation's capital.

2012
Play comes to a stop in the bottom of the sixth inning of the Nats game against the Mets when a praying mantis is discovered in the outfield at Nationals Park. The contest continues after New York outfielder Andres Torres carefully picks up the beneficial insect and gently hands it over to a member of the ballpark's ground crew.

1985: The Mets move into 1st place in the National League East with a 1 - 0 win over the Expos. Ron Darling, with relief help from Roger McDowell, is the winner.

2018 - The Mets defeat the Phillies, 8 - 2, in the second edition of the annual MLB Little League Classic staged to coincide with the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. Amed Rosario has 3 hits and 3 RBIs, with Jeff McNeil adding a two-run single to back the pitching of Jason Vargas.

Only a truly stupid team would trade Dom Smith, unless it was for something huge in return.

Smith and Nimmo are the straws stirring the Mets’ drink. DO NOT TINKER WITH THAT.

I do believe we need one more starter to make THIS year's team a playoff team, but I am not ready to sacrifice our future in obtaining it.

However... I would trade Guillorme to give him the chance to get his well earned starter status with another team.

Oswalt: WHile in one sense, his decent pitching last night was acceptable, remember the line up he is pitching to. How would he have done pitching against, say, Mets' hitters? My guess is not well. He has to take it up a step, like Dillon Gee did.

But he is more stretched out now - maybe in the next game he can get 5 full innings in.

Anyone see Edwin's 9th? I missed it. 3 hits and a run and 3 Ks. Like the Ks, of course, but the 9th inning runs have to stop.

I saw the 9th, which to me was an illustration of the difference between the 2019 and 2020 versions of Diaz. Yes, he gave up the solo HR (with a 6-run lead) and 2 more hits, one of which went almost 1/3 of the way to 3B.And he stupidly threw it away instead of eating it.

But last year's version would have blown up at that point, walking a few (none last night) and getting shelled.

The "new model" kept his head and struck out the side. A good sign.
