Since exploding in AA at the start of 2018, I referred at times to Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil as Batman and Robin.
Jeff had a brilliant debut in 2018's second half with the Mets.
Alonso stayed in the minors but between the minors and fall league baseball, put up dazzling, crushing power numbers.
Both in the major leagues for all of 2019, Pete won ROY and set a new rookie HR record with 53 HRs and McNeil had a truly sensational season.
The two stunningly combined in 2019 to have:
1,107 at bats, 186 runs, 68 doubles, 76 HRs, 195 RBIs, and .286/.370/.560. Even more stunning, considering McNeil did not play in 29 games.
That's why the Mets almost made the 2019 playoffs, despite a myriad of other issues.
Right there. That.
But the two have combined in 2020 through Tuesday to have much poorer results:
170 at bats, 20 runs, 7 doubles, 5 HRs, 21 RBIs, .247/.354/.375, simply a stunning drop off.
That's why the Mets may be in danger of not making the 2020 playoffs; they are a core part of, not hiding, the team's a myriad of other issues.
Right there. That.
What happened to Batman and Robin?
Jake, brilliant, again, got another ND last night.
Sickening.
And Batman and Robin were of little help once again.
Gotham weeps.

I can't help thinking that if circumstances were normal then results would be normal.
Look at it the other way...did anyone predict a .382 season from Robinson Cano?
Even Robinson Cano didn’t predict.382.
