STATEMENTS FROM FRED WILPON & JEFF WILPON

STATEMENT FROM
METS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD & CEO FRED WILPON

“I am very stressed and disappointed to learn tonight that our General Manager, Brodie Van Wagenen, made disrespectful and inaccurate comments about our Commissioner, a long-time close friend of mine. I hold Rob in the highest regard and in no way are Brody’s remarks reflective of my views or the organization’s. Rob continues to be a great leader of Major League Baseball. I apologize for any harm this incident has caused Rob.”

STATEMENT FROM METS COO JEFF WILPON

“To clear up any misunderstandings, it was my suggestion to potentially look into playing the game later because of scheduling issues. Brody’s misunderstanding of a private conversation was and is inexcusable. We fully respect our players and the Marlins players decision to not play tonight and appreciate the sincerity of all those who wish to draw attention to social injustices and racial inequalities that must be addressed. The entire Mets organization remains committed to creating meaningful change in our society.”

Only a complete moron like Jeff Wilpon could misspell the name of one of his key employees.

I spoke too soon. Daddy Fred did the same thing after getting it right the first time.

Can't anybody here mananage this game?

Wilpons make mistakes - the hired hands take the fall. Jim Duquette took the fall for the Kazmir trade though certain Wilpons were very excited about it. Omar took the fall when the 2007-2009 Mets ran into problems. Sandy Alderson took the fall when the 2017 sell off and later 2018 Free Agent signings went bust. If they were not selling, it would be a matter of time before Brodie (or is it Brody?) would be next.

Brodie bungled this somewhat, though a "hot mic" mistake does feel like a forgivable blunder to me. No doubt, Brodie was always on the side of the players and respected their right to protest.

But the Wilpons' response only exposed them as first-rate assholes.

The essential truth of Brodie's comment remains: "They just don't get it."

Any surprise that Jeff was at the bottom of all this?

And now the question... with the team about to be sold, do the Wilpons fire Brodie anyway? You know they want to.
