I haven't been to my local 7-11 since early March; I just make my own coffee now - I stay out of stores pretty much. Just wanted to stay that.
The Mets won't stay stuck at 7-11 for long, after they lost 11 or their last 17 games oh, so easily.
The losses just kind of flow, don't they? When you are a long term Mets fan, you sort of come to expect easy flows of losses every year.
42 games in a 60 game schedule left, boys not 144 games in a 162 game schedule. I just thought I'd mention that in case y'all forgot. Time to wake up, brothers.
Porcello pitched well, but his first inning homer surrendered to struggling Mets nemesis Trea Turner was not a good omen.
The Mets did find Mighty Mad Max Scherzer to be mortal in the first 2 innings - 60 pitches, 5 base runners - but like struggling Jake the other night, the great ones like Max figure out ways to escape jams. He hung in, allowed just one run, and did something the Mets often forget to do - he WON.
The G boys, Gimenez and Guillorme, were the offense last night as the Mets racked up a single run in their 2-1 loss.

The Buffalo (country singer Willie Ray) may have misplaced his supply of swill from the fountain of youth, as he is a frigid .192/.276/.288 with 10 hits, 5 walks, and a mere 3 RBIs in 57 plate appearances. He also seems to have lost a step and now appear to be moving in reverse. The age of 33 can be a game changer for a catcher. The 4 for 13 (zero RBIs) Nido may warrant more playing time.
Pete Alonso needs to just chill - if you fail today, once you do, today is over. It will turn around. If the Mets are to win, it needs to.
He pinch hit last night (popped out) and sits in Uglyville: .197 with no power, 7 RBIs, and 24 Ks, roughly one every 3 plate appearances. I'd put him in the lead off spot and shake it up for him - maybe he explodes. Tell him he doesn't need to have to try to steal.
Brandon Nimmo is off to a miserable start, hitting .218 - except wait, his OBP is .427. He is a walking machine, but he needs the two beefy boys above to compile more that 10 RBIs in 130 plate appearances so Nimmo can actually score more.
The Mets' fifth outfielder strategy is not working too well, with Jake (traded for Blake) Marisnick and hitless, smiling Billy Hamilton combining for 1 for 16. Add in another gem, Brian Dozier, at 2 for 15, and that substitute black hole (3 for 31 from this trio) is showing up, just like it seems to for the Mets every season. So, my advice to Brodie: trade lots of top prospects, After all, look at how well that's gone so far.
The loss of the hot Cano bat to injury was very hurtful to this sputtering offense, although it has given Andres Gimenez a chance to shine. Kind of like the opportunity Jeff McNeil got in 2018, and grabbed and ran with it.
And of course, JD Davis proves to be a very bright light - he may (if I can risk sacrilege) very well be a better hitter long term than Pete Alonso. Why? Well, JDD in 461 ABs has hit .308/.375/.525. JD may just turn out to be All Star caliber at 3rd base like a guy named Wright once was.
Well, Wacha and Stroman will pick this team up by the bootstraps - huh? They're not playing? Oh, sorry about that.
Anyway, the Mets do have TBD starting against Anibal Sanchez (7.84) tonight. 10 or more Mets runs would be nice.
Me? I would convert Seth Lugo to a starter's role, and put the improved Edwin Diaz back in the closer role - he looked darned good last night.
Lastly, I was gonna look up the Mets' batting average with runners in scoring position - but it is time for me to make my non 7-11 coffee. Trust me, the Mets' hitting with RISP is like drinking 4 day old coffee.
Yesterday was 8-11. Can the Mets end today at 8-11? We'll see, folks, we'll see.

Calling for more playing time for Nido? Who are you and what have you done with Tom?
John, if the Buffalo needs to be put down, Nido is next on the lack-of-depth chart. Listening last night, they were talking about how lefty Dom Smith is ready to pitch (says he has a wicked pick off move) and catch (has his own lefty catcher's glove. I wish he were righty and could take over at catcher.
This is the kind of game that I appreciate not having TV or cable coverage for.
