John From Albany – Mets News and Breakfast Links 8/25/2020

Good Morning. Happy Birthday to Pedro Feliciano, the Mets Single Season games for pitcher record holder with 92 in 2010.  The Mets resume play with 2 against the Marlins today and BVW says the Mets will be careful “Very Careful” at the trade deadline plus Albert Pujols passes A-rod and MLB highlights.

SNY.TV: How coronavirus hiatus and new jam-packed schedule could impact Mets during stretch run. Starting Tuesday, the Mets -- who at 12-14 are percentage points behind the 13-15 Colorado Rockies for the second wild card in the NL -- are scheduled to play 34 games in 34 days.

SNY.TV: Brodie Van Wagenen talks Mets' trade deadline approach: 'We're gonna be very careful'. 'We have to be responsible for the future of the organization while still being opportunistic for ways to improve the club'.

NY Post: Why Brodie Van Wagenen is unlikely to make major Mets splash at trade deadline. “We feel we have a number of players who could be trade deadline-type acquisitions for us,” Van Wagenen said.”

MLB.com: 30 teams, 30 bold Deadline predictions. “Mets Prediction: They'll trade a shortstop... But the Mets have the type of up-the-middle talent that other clubs crave, including three talented young shortstops in Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez and Ronny Mauricio. Long term, the Mets don’t have room for all of them.”

MLB.com: These prospects could draw trade interest. For the Mets they say Mark Vientos. “One of the youngest players in the 2017 Draft, when the Mets selected him in the second round, Vientos is one of the more projectable power hitters below the Double-A level, even if his numbers-to-date don’t exactly reflect that much. The 20-year-old packs a ton of strength into his projectable 6-foot-4, 185-pound frame, and the hope is that his massive raw power will begin to translate in games as he gains experience and improves as an overall hitter.”

SNY.TV: Here's how schedule shakes out with Mets returning to play after coronavirus postponements. The Mets have not played since Wednesday night in Miami after two positive coronavirus tests.

Mike Puma NY Post Mets mailbag: Behind the Wilpons’ money-losing myth. “The Wilpons want to keep SNY for obvious reasons — the network is a cash cow, bolstered by the fact it pays so relatively little to carry Mets games. The contract between the network and team runs through 2030.”

Forbes.com: New York Mets’ Two Coronavirus Cases Should Alarm Everyone Else In Major League Baseball.  The likeliest explanation is the scariest: Even the teams and players committing to the most precise of lockdowns are vulnerable to outside forces. On a bus. On a plane. In a hotel. In the middle of a pandemic, dangers lurk literally everywhere.

Pujols passes A Rod in all time RBI list. Once upon a time, the Mets passed on drafting Pujols for 12 rounds. We know what happened next.

Brodie, don't make trades that will greatly piss off those of us who care about top prospects.

Play ball.

I like the leaner links post...

Still think you can ditch the MLB link portion.
