Mets Takeaways from Monday's 11-4 win over the Marlins, including Pete Alonso
and Robinson Cano playing Home Run Derby. Duo went back-to-back in the
sixth after each homering earlier in the contest.
Mets360.com: “The
homers were part of a nine-XBH night for the Mets. In all, the Mets banged out
14 hits, including four with runners in scoring position. They also drew eight
walks and had three batters hit.”
Metstradamus:
“[Chasen]
Shreve, however, was dominant in his 2 and 1/3’s innings, striking out five
batters without giving up a hit. This was at a point in the game where both
starters were pulled and the game had the potential to be a 12-11 loss where
Brodie makes a special trip to Bob’s Furniture just to throw a different
variety of chairs because the chairs in his palatial estate bore him.”

Fry Faith and Fear in Flushing: It would be odd if the Mets slipped into
the lower ranks of the playoffs because of their bullpen arms instead of those
of their starters. But everything’s odd this year, isn’t it? Why not hope a
little oddness could actually be a good thing?

Martino SNY.TV: “According to the people familiar with the team’s thinking,
it is simply too soon to say if the Mets will be buyers, sellers, or
nonparticipants in whatever trade action occurs. This week’s games against the
Marlins and Yankees could go a long way towards setting a course.”

Congrats to former Met Nabil Crismatt on his MLB pitching debut.
So glad to see Shreve get the win despite not pitching the 5th inning. Good signing.
Cano sure looks lethal this year - now he just has to stay healthy. The way he and Smith are hitting, add in Alonso, Conforto, Nimmo, Davis and McNeil and you could have some major raking from the Mets as a team.
Gsellman goes 1 2/3 as a starter. What's the goal in his next start? 2 innings.
Gsellman's next start is scheduled for Saturday, vs the Yankees, but I don't expect to see that. IMO, Kilome has shown enough recently to be bumped ahead of him.
Bill -
My guess is Kevin Smith on Saturday.

Achilles right now is probably the SP.
Mets' Peterson and Dgrom, maybe Wachman soon too. But Porcello and Matz are concerns thus far.
Might add in Kilome FT from here on out as four. Perhaps look for one more out there via trade.
Mets' need Wheels. 3-0 on enemy Philbees staff. He wanted a lot of dough. True. But you know what, he's worth it. Live and learn.
Finally Mets' playing "The Domtrain" FT in OF. He only leads Mets' team with HR's and RBI's. Way to go DTrain! You'gotta believe. And we do!
"Get onboard that DTrain. Next stop is Russian and China too. Don't miss that train at the station. 'Cause if you miss it, miss it, I feel sorry for you!" Woo-woo!
This team will get back in it. They have the hitting and defense. It's just making the pitching staff optimal. They will be in the playoffs!
