Good
Morning. Happy Birthday Charlie
Hough and Nori Aoki.
Reports say the Mets are out on Tomoyuki
Sugano but in on Brad Hand. and in Winter Ball, Robinson Cano goes deep again.

Mets have interest in star closer Brad Hand, who had a 2.05 ERA, 1.37 FIP and 0.77 WHIP and led the AL with 16 saves. Sandy Alderson mentioned back at the time that the new regime might have claimed Hand when he was on waivers had it been their call then.

RHP Tomoyuki Sugano has many good MLB options, including the #SFGiants, Jays and others. But while the Mets have been in touch, it appears their main focus is elsewhere. Sugano (101-50, 2.34 ERA) also has 4-yr offer w/opt-outs every year to return to Yomiuri. Decision soon.

The #Mets are not in on Tomoyuki Sugano. @JonHeyman was 1st to report focus is elsewhere.

Yanks among several Puig suitors (sources).
Marlins and Orioles both made offers to Puig last year. Marlins offered $2M base plus tons of incentives last winter. Marlins had the impression he didn’t relish having to earn most of the deal. O’s made offer just before the season started. He didn’t love that bid either. https://t.co/DC4fhBNuVo

Charlie Hough is another guy I forgot ever pitched for the Mets. Then I looked - and he didn't. But then remembered he had been a Mets coach. He was a classic .500 pitcher though, 216 career wins - and 216 career losses.
Liam Hendriks looks MIGHTY good in that video. Relievers are risky - but he had a heckuva 2019 and 2020.
David Rodriguez on base 3 more times - he has been impressive for quite a while now. You start to wonder if he could possibly hit .240 - .250 at a MLB level. Which would put him on the radar for 2021 back up catcher work with the Mets, perhaps.
Wow! I didn't realize Tug McGraw died at just 59 years old. An age I will be later this year.
Bob W
Robinson Cano looks awfully plump in that video.
BP released their list of Mets top-10. Don’t want to give away the whole list, but putting Jaylen Palmer at #10 just floored me. Super excited for my favorite dark horse prospect, but wow...
What do the Indians want for Lindor anyway? Are they being reasonable?
Texas Gus, Jaylen Palmer might be quite an athlete, but his K #s were quite high in 2019. Will that change in 2021 against higher competition? It has to.
Former 3rd rounder Ivan Wilson was quite an athlete, too, but was done with BB in the lower minors after fanning 317 times in 843 PAs (one every 2.66 PAs).
Palmer fanned 135 times in 376 PAs (one every 2.78 PAs), with his highest level at friendly Kingsport.
I am open to the possibility that he was raw in 2019 and much more refined in 2021 - but I remain highly skeptical until prove otherwise.
Bob W, if you were a Mets fan, you hadda love Tug. He was a heckuva pitcher for 10 years with the Phillies after the Mets, but at least the guy they got in return, John Stearns, was solid as a Met for several years. And Del Unser did OK too.
Still, on personality alone, it would have been great if Tug could have been a whole-career Met.
Amazing too, that Stearns, who once hit 15 HRs in a season for the Mets could have gotten up 693 times in 1980 and 1981, hit well, but had just one HR in that stretch. Talk about a dead ball era result.
The Athletic’s Cleveland Indians’ writer has Lindor going to Toronto. Ok, au revoir. See you next winter.
