Fastball was electric in 2020 at 91-93 with good secondaries in just 2.2 innings pitched. Lothes was slated to be a big contributor at UNC-Charlotte in 2020. He'll handle a rotation spot in 2021.
2020:
Made just one appearance before injury and saw season end early due to the Coronavirus pandemic before making a comeback ... pitched 2.2 innings of hitless ball with three strikeouts in his 49ers debut vs. VCU on February 15th.
Prep:
Played at Lakewood HS in Hebron, Ohio being named the LCL's pitcher of the year in each of his final two seasons ... began career with a pair of district championship game appearances before winning it in his final two season ... helped the Lancers to three 20-win seasons over his final three years ... with 11-3 in final two years with 71 strikeouts in 47.1 innings and a 1.48 ERA ... also hit .390 in his junior year.

What a month it has been for UNC Charlotte commit Christian Lothes. Just a week removed from a strong showing at the Super 60, Lothes impressed once again with his performance during the Pre-Season All-State showcase.
The 6-foot-2 lefty recorded the fastest pitch of the event touching 91 mph multiple times while sitting 89-91. The ball explodes out of the hand through a high-¾ slot with late life on the pitch. Lothes can really spin the ball. His 76-78 mph slider is one of the best breaking balls in the state. The pitch is a plus offering working out of the same slot as the fastball with sharp 1/7 break. The final offering was an 83-85 mph changeup. Thrown with fastball arm speed, the pitch dives hard through the zone.
There’s still some projection left here and Lothes is definitely one to keep an eye through this spring as the MLB draft approaches.

Interesting math on the Hendricks deal. If they just want him to go away, the $15MM is broken up over time as a buyout. If they want to activate the fourth year as an option, he get $15MM all in that year. But what it does is make it a $54MM hit on the luxury tax the first three years while their kids are young and cheap so there is more room.
