Once it crosses the finish line, a seismic deal for the Mets.
If Max Scherzer’s deal gets done as the Mets expect, the average annual value will be somewhere in the range of $43 million a year — a staggering jump of nearly 20% from the current record AAV of $36 million held by Gerrit Cole. It is a huge number, especially for a 37-year-old.

After Bauer, I will believe it when I see it.
They now say it is done.
Yup. Just watched the special report on SNY. Wow!
Totally wrong. How are teams in other markets going to compete? I think there needs to be a payroll cap, and obviously a floor. As a Mets fan, I love it and will love it more when they sign Suzuki and Kershaw. But as a pure baseball fan, it’s wrong. Now, having a big payroll and a bunch of superstars means nothing if your manager is an egomaniac with no clue - ahem, Dave Roberts. So, I hope they are smart.
Wow, I am pleasantly surprised that they got this over the finish line!
I was waiting for the article that he stayed in LA and the Mets were "bridesmaids" yet again. Instead, the Mets get their guy and have upgraded the rotation in a big way. I wonder how Jake feels about this?
So, if both of them are healthy, that is a pretty scary 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation, right? Add in a reasonably healthy Carrasco, a solid #4 in Walker and anyone else really at #5 (Megill, perhaps) and that should have the rest of the division taking notice.
The lineup and the defense are also better, so what's next?
Another starter? Some depth in the bullpen?
To me this is really about...O.K. Aretha sing it RESPECT and boy do we need it a seismic shift like getting Piazza and Beltran but now we need to finish it World Series or bust!
