10 College Baseball Stars to Watch Ahead of 2022 MLB Draft
C Daniel Susac, Arizona
2022 Stats: 13 G, .387/.409/.613, 11 XBH (1 HR), 16 RBI, 12 R
A freshman All-American last year after going undrafted in 2020, Daniel Susac hit .335/.393/.591 with 24 doubles, 12 home runs and 65 RBI in 61 games.
He is draft-eligible as a sophomore, and he looks like the best two-way catching prospect among this year's college crop. A switch-hitter with good bat-to-ball skills, he has plus power, a strong throwing arm and above-average athleticism behind the plate.
If his hot start continues, he could push Kevin Parada to be the first catcher taken in the 2022 draft.

10. Daniel Susac
Catcher, Arizona
A big, tall, power-hitting catcher, Susac looks the part. In fact, he previously switch-hit, but ditched his lefty swing for the 2022 campaign. Susac has a very good arm behind the plate, and has really improved his pitch-framing in 2022. Susac has more explosiveness and lateral mobility than most catchers his size do. But this guy will make his money with the bat. A potential plus hitter with plus power, Susac projects a middle-of-the-order impact bat, a run producer and an impact defender up the middle of the field. Susac's batted-ball data surpasses that of Henry Davis from 2021. The kid can bang.

Golden Spikes Award Winner
Daniel Susac, C, Arizona
Susac has the ability to change a game on both sides of the ball. His powerful bat has the capability of leaving the yard at any moment, while his cannon for an arm can throw out quality runners often. It’s an exciting tool set that makes Susac one of the better players in the country and a top name in the draft this year. -TH
24. Daniel Susac, C, Arizona
Susac, more so than any other catcher on this list, was identified by scouts as the player who could benefit the most from the eventual implementation of an automated ball-strike system. (Increasingly baseball's version of Millenarianism.) He's on the large side for a catcher (he's listed at 6-foot-4) and he's not regarded as a plus receiver. He does have a big arm, however, and the move to robot umpires would emphasize his strength and minimize his weaknesses. If the rules remain as they are, Susac will have to make up for his defensive shortcomings with the thump he can provide offensively. He hit .335/.393/.591 last season with 12 home runs and 25 troubles (triples plus doubles). It's worth noting that Susac's older brother, Andrew, has played in six big-league seasons after being a second-round pick himself.

22. Cardinals — Daniel Susac, C, Arizona
Carlos’ take: Susac has been on the board long enough, and given where Parada went, we probably both waited a bit too long to pop him. Scouting directors voted for Susac narrowly over Parada for our preseason all-american first team, so that could be telling, and we have the two neck and neck on our draft rankings. He’s shown solid extra-base power and a strong arm and I feel like the Cardinals would have to feel good about this talent getting to them at No. 22.
Scout’s take: Cardinals get plenty of value with this pick. The consensus is Susac goes top 20 but in this case he slides to 22. If Susac continues to put up the huge numbers, a team picking from an analytical model could select him early. The Reds, A’s and Mariners don’t seem like suitors for a catcher considering their recent first and second round catcher selections.

C Daniel Susac
Formerly a switch-hitter, Susac now focuses on hitting from the right side. Susac’s prodigious raw power can sometimes camouflage what a good natural hitter he is. He allows the ball to travel into the zone and doesn’t sell out for power, letting his natural strength impact the ball all over the field. He can as easily hook a ball over the left field fence for a homer as he can shoot a double into the right-field gap.

Player to know: Daniel Susac, C
Susac was everything Arizona could have asked for as a freshman last season. He hit .335/.392/.591 with 24 doubles and 12 home runs, and he proved that he could handle the rigors of catching a full season at this level and remain productive at the plate. Defensively, he’s not a refined catcher yet, but his athleticism behind the plate stands out and he has a plus arm. As a catcher with a track record of success, plus raw power, plus arm strength, physicality and athleticism, Susac is not only one of the best players in college baseball but also an elite prospect for the 2022 draft.

Susac was a power-oriented prep prospect who showcased raw power with the bat and arm strength from behind the dish. He was also a solid quarterback for his Jesuit High team and is the younger brother of Andrew Susac, who caught five years in the big leagues. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound catcher had a freshman All-American campaign last spring in 2021 (.335/.392/.591, with 12 home runs and 24 doubles) and was named the 2021 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year for his efforts. Despite his length, Susac has managed to hit for high average and solid contact so far in his collegiate career, with power that played mostly to the left-center gap last spring. He’s shown a solid ability to produce against 93-plus mph velocity and has swung and missed more against breaking and offspeed stuff. Susac’s arm still gets plus grades and should be an asset for him behind the plate, and while he’s a bit taller than your average catcher, scouts think he should be able to stick behind the plate given his athleticism and arm. Susac split time with Georgia Tech catcher Kevin Parada last summer with USA Baseball’s collegiate national team and should battle him for the top catcher spot in the 2022 class this spring.

12. Detroit Tigers
Daniel Susac, Catcher, Arizona
The Tigers have dominated recent drafts thanks to hefty bonus pools and high draft picks. The organization is positioned for success very soon and we think Susac is definitely a good fit. The product of Roseville, California is carried by a big bat and leveraged by his leadership and admiration from his pitching staff and peers. He can hit, he’s got juice, and he can certainly stick behind the plate with a solid average arm and sneaky athleticism. Al Avila and the Tigers organization love big conference performers and Susac was one of the best players in the entire country last season as a true freshman. It wouldn’t surprise us to see the Tigers continue to bolster their future down the road by jumping on a talented high school arm here either.

6. Daniel Susac Catcher, Arizona
A big, tall, switch-hitting catcher, Susac immediately brings back visions of Matt Wieters at Georgia Tech. Susac has a very good arm behind the plate, and more explosiveness and lateral mobility than most catchers his size do. But this guy will make his money with the bat. A potential plus hitter with plus power, Susac projects a middle-of-the-order impact bat, a run producer and an impact defender up the middle of the field. Susac's batted-ball data surpasses that of Henry Davis from 2021. The kid can bang.

8. Minnesota Twins | Daniel Susac, C, Arizona
The Twins certainly have had no problem changing up their approach from year to year, almost alternating with prep and college picks in the first round, and in this mock we have them going with a first-round catcher for first time since franchise favorite Joe Mauer. Susac, a PG All-American as a prep back in 2019, certainly has no shortage of tools as a true power-profiled catcher with a big arm and loads of pop in the bat and if he has a sophomore season similar to what he did as a freshman, he could easily find himself in this spot come draft day. -TR

Susac have ANY chance of being as good as Francisco?
Definitely.
Maybe even bettet.
Currently .392 with 7 homers
Would you take him at 11 (or 14)? Or is the need for pitching too great?
I would take the best player available, and not put all my eggs in the Alvarez basket. What if he gets hurt? What if he becomes Jesus Montero? There arent many pitchers worthy of the first round, so the Mets need to let the draft come to them and not reach, i.e.: Cecchini, Nimmo, et al.
I would go pitchet
