I like it when rookie ball level players get promoted because MILB.com's stats page adds their picture - ohh, THAT'S what he looks like. Look it up yourself - I'm not gonna add it (Mack might, though - he's like that).
For those of you who despise everything Russian these days, you probably also don't like rushin' young ballplayers, either.
But the Mets drafted smallish Wyatt Young in the 15th round last year. The 5'7" 160 Young promptly hit .370 in 92 at bats in the FCL last year, good enough for me to take note last year. Even if not a large body of work
Well, seems that Wyatt must be turning some heads. Why, you say? He has been starting at SS
- for Syracuse lately - which is AAA - which is 4 levels above FCL. WHAT??
Boy, he must be in WAY over his head. Well....maybe not. Actually...
Wyatt's been in five Syracuse games and had 5 hits and 6 walks, good for a .550 on base %.
With those ABs, he now has 120 minor league career at bats.
So...from this (mostly) retired writer....who only wants to write when he sees something out of the ordinary...
KUDOS TO WYATT YOUNG.

Who is the Mets' best hitting catcher? Well, if you're thinking about McCann and Nido, it is a choice between least bat, since the two are combined 6 for 44.
Best hitting Mets' catcher, right now? Francisco Alvarez, who slugged a double last night that would have been a long HR in any other park but the Boston AA one that has a Green Monster fence in LF.

If you watch Wyatt Young play while drinking seltzer, you might find yourself saying, WYATT EARP. Seltzer can be gassy

Wyatt Young added a hit and walk last night, making AAA look easy. Syracuse has won 4 straight after a 1-10 start, and Wyatt is a big factor, batting leadoff and getting on base 13 of 24 times. Remarkable for a kid who was in the lowest level of the minors last season.
FCL-to-AAA Wyatt Young now on base 15 of 30 times in AAA, while prospects Blankenhorn, Bohanek, Cortes, Vientos, Brodey and Lee are a combined 38 for 248 (.153) there. Baseball is truly a remarkable game.
After tonight, Young has been on base 19 of 39 times in AAA. He had just 14 at bats above rookie ball before starting and leading off for Syracuse. Simply amazing.
On this last day of April, Wyatt Young hit his first pro hR - off whom? Logan Verrett. Go Young, or go home.
May 1: Wyatt Young keeps living the dream, goes 4 for 5, .353.
On Cinco de Mayo, Wyatt is 2 for 4 so far (.355). Meanwhile, Lindor can't hit. Can we rescind Lindor's contract and promote Wyatt Young to be the Mets' SS? Just asking, because I am partial to .355 hitters.
Wyatt Young has been on base 46 times in his 25 games to date in 2022. Take THAT, Brandon Nimmo!
One of Mack's pre-draft posts over a year ago said this about Young:
Young is exceptionally quick on the defensive side of the ball and plays the game at a frenzied pace....He is an above-average runner who could provide some value on the bases as well
Young is a pure hitter. .300+ hitter in two years at Pepperdine. Plays a reliable defense and projects to stay on the middle infield long-term. Diminuitive statue doesn't project to hit for much power, but screams super utility for big league club.
