Tom Brennan - The Beanings Need to Stop - NOW!

Pillar 2021

We all remember Tony Conigliaro, if we're old enough.

A burgeoning superstar done in by a beaning.

I remember Tommie Agee being beaned by Bob Gibson in 1968 as if it were yesterday.  Ruined his 1968 season.

Piazza and Clemens.

Kevin Pillar.

Now, though, it's worse - in April alone:

Pete gets beaned not once (bad enough), but twice, and Lindor takes one to the face, too.

Guys are getting hit as if everyone is Ron Hunt, with bullseyes on them.

100 MPH hard objects hitting one in the head can be deadly - someone should tell baseball that.

The excellent Chris Bassitt was interviewed and was livid - and blames it on the crappy baseballs supplied by an uncaring MLB.

He said baseball does not care enough to fix it.

Baseball better wake up before someone gets killed.

Fix the balls.  Now.

And an automatic $25,000 fine if a pitcher hits a guy in the head, even if the ball slipped.

Get a grip, or get off the mound.

You want to be a headhunter, move to the Congo.

I like the Mets' great start - but if guys are disabled by hurtling meteorites to the face, the fast start could become a distant memory.

Ballplayers are not fungible goods - they are human beings that can get severely injured.

And Arenado starts a brawl after he gets brushed back after, like, 800 Mets got hit in this series by them?  SMH.

Fix the balls.  Now. Fine the pitchers.  Fine teams like the Cards.

What say you?

BIG ZWACK ATTACK!

Nick Zwack, 17th round lefty in 2021, Zwack has fanned 37 out of his 59 career outs recorded.  About 18 per 9 innings.  DANG!

And...

Another Lucie lefty, Daniel Juarez, has fanned 59 in his last 40 innings in 2021 and 2022, while allowing just 17 hits.

And...

10th round lefty Keyshawn Askew is 3-0 career, with 34 Ks in 25 innings, with a 0.68 WHIP.

Who says there are no deft lefties in Metsville?

Anyway, back to Arenado's foolish, moronic overreaction to merely being brushed back after JDD was the latest HBP victim -  GAME BECAUSE OF BEING HIT.

Open offer to Buck Showalter...if you want me to hit Arenado with a pitch the next time he comes to Citifield, just sign me.  One batter.  Him.  I'm old, but I'll get my arm in shape and try to make it painful for him.  I'd be happy to do it.  Just reach out to me.  Maybe an old guy hitting him will send a message:

THE BEANINGS HAVE TO STOP - NOW!

I guess any reader beaning comments will have to wait until the coffee beans kick in. So, another topic:

BROOKLYN OFFENSE - SIMPLY AWFUL - AGAIN

17 games, 3 HRs - Greenville in the same league has 31, and Brooklyn has 52 runs, Greenville has 110.

Brooklyn hitting .199. Winston Salem hitting .284.

And Brooklyn cannot blame their park this year. They are hitting .261 at home, just .143 on the road.

Brooklyn has stolen just 16 of 26. Meanwhile, Jersey Shore has stolen 48 of 51, Aberdeen 30 of 33. Yipes, swipes, Batman.

No other way to say it - simply awful.

Oddly, one former Mets writer loved Wilmer Reyes - for some reason, though, Reyes is playing for Brooklyn (kind of a demotion after going to the AFL last fall) and is hitting an anemic .203 with a .254 OBP in 16 games. And one of my last year faves, Jose Peroza, has regressed, hitting just .151 in 16 games with zero XBH and 3 RBIs, and 1 walk and 22 Ks.

I'd say good grief, but the hitting is just grief.

Brooklyn is stil 9-8 due to their team having the only sub 3.00 ERA.

Meanwhile, former Mets wunderkind Petey the Crow is up to 19 pro minor league games: .378/.505/.554. On base 47 times so far.

Ouch.

Still

I wish our team would charge the mound

Nice to hear we have some potential good Lefty arms in the system.

Wish we had Arenado on our team.

Ray, I will say that I am surprised that Arenado is hitting this well outside of Colorado, I had my doubts when he went FA.

It remains to be seen how those 3 lefties will do against higher competition - but the huge Ks per 9 innings for the trio is very eye-catching.

Mack, it looks like they are at least putting up some resistance. I think charging the mound is next on the agenda if the HBP crap doesn't stop.

Post: “For his 29th birthday, J.D. Davis received a boot for his left foot.

The Mets third baseman departed Wednesday’s game after getting hit by a pitch in that foot in the eighth inning. X-rays were negative, but Davis will receive further evaluation before the Mets begin their weekend series against the Phillies.”
