After a streaky start to March, Arkansas 2B Robert Moore is having a really big weekend. After going 3 for 4 with a HR yesterday, he starts today off with a ringing double off the wall. Back up over .300 for the season.

10 College Baseball Stars to Watch Ahead of 2022 MLB Draft

2B Robert Moore, Arkansas

2022 Stats: 10 G, .316/.409/.553, 7 XBH (1 HR), 8 RBI, 6 R

Arkansas second baseman Robert Moore is the son of Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore, and the Royals could face an interesting decision if he's still on the board when they make their selection at No. 9.

The 5'9" infielder posted a .942 OPS with 10 doubles, 16 home runs and 53 RBI in 61 games last season, generating good power thanks to his plus bat speed and ability to consistently barrel the ball. He also has limited swing-and-miss in his game.

His arm strength will likely limit him to second base, but he has a chance to be an excellent defender and a top-tier offensive player at that position. As one of the better college bats in the class and an up-the-middle player, he could be a top-10 pick.

 14. Robert Moore

Second Base, Arkansas

Son of Kansas City Royals GM Dayton Moore, Robert was a highly regarded prep prospect before enrolling early at Arkansas prior to the 2020 season. A switch-hitter, Moore has a short and compact swing and has hit for average and power in his career for the Razorbacks. For a smaller player, Moore’s power has been surprising, tapping into a good bit of juice in Fayetteville. It's not huge raw power, more so average, but Moore gets to it with his swing plane and pull-side efficiency; a la Alex Bregman. He’s got more pop from the left side of the plate, but both swing mechanics are similar. Moore oozes athleticism and has shown great range and defense at second base. Some scouts believe he has a shot at playing shortstop, but if he's forced to stick at second base he projects a 70-grade glove. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better leader in this class. Moore gets elite grades for just about every extraneous tool you can throw on a guy. Leader, mentor, competitor, worker, friend. He’s a definitive upgrade to a team in so many unique ways.

Robert Moore (Middle-infield, Arkansas)

Arkansas is the #2 ranked team in the country, and Robert Moore will be a key piece to keeping the team in the top five this year. Unlike others on this list, Moore’s biggest upside is his defense. The middle-infielder has quick feet, incredible range, and a baseball IQ that is unparalleled. Moore swings a left-handed bat and has the ability to crush the baseball, but not quite at the same clip as guys like Lee, Jung, and Berry.

Golden Spikes Award Winner

Robert Moore, 2B, Arkansas

Moore does so many things well on the baseball diamond that his value, even as high as it is, sometimes seems undervalued. He’s a dynamic defender at second base, offers big power and on-base ability from both sides of the plate, runs well, and is the clear leader of a very talented Arkansas team. He’s a near-lock to be a first rounder this summer, and he’s my pick to be college baseball’s very best player. -BS

13. Robert Moore, 2B, Arkansas

Moore is the only player on this list who could be drafted by his father (Dayton, the Royals' president of baseball operations). He's a switch-hitting, smooth-fielding second baseman who surprised evaluators last season with his offensive output. Moore, listed at just 5-foot-9, led the Razorbacks with 16 home runs and batted .283/.384/.558 overall. Evaluators are skeptical he'll pack as much punch heading forward, but he should continue to walk (14 percent of his plate appearances in 2021) and make a high amount of contact on in-zone swings (86 percent). Matt McLain, a shortstop and the first collegiate infielder taken last summer, slipped to the 17th pick; that seems like it might be Moore's floor, depending on how this season plays out.

10. Rockies — Robert Moore, 2B, Arkansas

Carlos’ take: After all of that talk with the Royals, I am just going to scoop up Moore here. He does everything on the field well and is one of the better defensive infielders in the college class. I wonder if he’ll get a chance to play shortstop at the next level.

Scout’s take: I may look back at this one in July and say “I could have been spot on with the No. 9 pick.” Hey, a lot will change in the next few months. The floor for Moore is high, so I’m comfortable knowing he goes in the first round. Moore can flat out play the game, which is not surprising considering his exposure at a young age to the highest level of the game. It’ll be interesting to see if he repeats the power numbers from last season. I’m predicting a future above-average hitter with average power and plus defense at second base.

Player to know: Robert Moore, 2B

Moore has started every game over the last two seasons for Arkansas and seemingly always finds a way to be at the heart of the action. He last season led the team in home runs (16) and runs (59) and came through in the clutch time and again. As he enters his third season of college baseball, he has a chance to be a first-round pick, but first will be trying to lead Arkansas to Omaha for the first time in his career.

Arkansas 2B/SS Robert Moore might be the most well-liked player in the entire country. 80-grade leadership & a top-of-the-scale clubhouse presence, Moore brings a big bat + supreme defense to the table too.

Robert Moore

Arkansas 2B

Notes:

Ht: 5-9 | Wt: 170 | B-T: B-R

Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted

Age At Draft: 20.3

The son of Royals president Dayton Moore, Robert was an early enrollee at Arkansas and has been a catalyst in the lineup and a sterling defender at the keystone since arriving in 2020. He got off to a strong start in the Covid-shortened 2020 season and then exploded in 2021, hitting .283/.384/.558 with a team-high 16 home runs. That power was surprising to see out of the undersized switch hitter who is listed at just 5-foot-9, 170 pounds. There’s reason to be skeptical of that power at the next level, and Moore didn’t show nearly as much pop with a wood bat with USA Baseball’s collegiate national team last summer, but there’s no doubting he has more pop than you would expect given his frame. The question will likely be how impactful is his bat at the next level? All but one of his home runs came as a lefthanded hitter and most of those were pulled, but Moore has also shown solid on base skills, with an 18% walk rate over his collegiate career. Defensively, Moore has terrific actions and instincts that are unsurprising for a player who’s been around the game his entire life. His arm strength might prevent him from playing shortstop, but there are some scouts who think his actions and quickness could work at the position. With Jalen Battles handling the job at Arkansas, scouts haven’t been able to get a great feel one way or another. Moore’s raw toolset isn’t loud and he doesn’t offer much in the way of physical projection, but his game skill on all fronts has him as a close to unanimous first-round talent.

9. Kansas City Royals

Robert Moore, Second Base, Arkansas

Listen, we’re not in the business of creating family drama. But we don’t need to either. Regardless of the fact he’s Dayton Moore’s son, “Bob” is a really good player, and there are teams inside the first five picks that have very real intrigue in Moore near the top. Some believe he can play shortstop too. He’s a bit of an Alex Bregman type of player. Fantastic athlete, good hitter, with some raw power, and he’s getting to that power thanks to an optimized attack angle and feel for the zone. If he sticks at second base, it may be a double-plus glove. He’s a top-of-the-order stick with impact and tools. It doesn’t hurt he possesses 80-grade makeup either.

9.  Kansas City Royals | Robert Moore, 2B, Arkansas

The elephant in the room here is that Robert Moore’s father is Dayton Moore, GM of the Royals, but that fact didn’t impact this selection, and the value match is strong. Moore is a twitchy, extremely talented infield defender who is plus at second base and likely could play shortstop as well. He’s added serious power to his game and has always had excellent contact and approach tools, making him a well-rounded, impactful addition to the club. -JG

Anyone knows what happened to our compensation pick for Conforto since he is not signed

I believe there is a cut-off date that the pick is lost if the player you are losing doesn't sign but I can't find the specific date.
