An Open Thread Twin Bill...
First - a hypothetical question - if you were a GM who had an actual budget, and had to consider a player's cost, health, and age, and could only pick one, would you go with the emerging Tylor Megill, or the brilliant but health-challenged deGrom?
And...Jeff McNeil is off to a hot 2022 start, after a not so hot 2021, which was after hitting .319 from 2018 thru 2020. That said, do you think he can win the NL batting title in 2022?

I go with Tylor - looks to me like a possible emerging star, the way he punched out Juan Soto with high heat reminiscent of Harvey.
But, if I have a healthy Jake, Max, Megill and Bassitt for the playoffs, I am a truly happy camper.
Jeff - I have this inkling it is going to be a very big McNeil season. Hopefully a batting title. In 61 seasons it would be nice to have a second one.
deGrom is recognized as the "best pitcher in the world", so I pick him. His injury woes are recent - not a career trend. What everyone feels is a troubled history was just the slow motion train wreck last year where he had a succession of little stops before finally shutting down. That said, I am very impressed with Megill, and on an earlier thread, I picked him to be this year's most successful pitcher. But until he proves he's not Harvey, I take Jake!
I have also gone on record in the comments as a big McNeil supporter. I have said that if the Mets ever trade him, he will haunt them by winning a batting title with another team. So why not keep him and let him win the title in NY. Maybe this year, maybe next. It takes alot of skill, but also a bunch of luck.
I contacted Jeff.prior to the game, wished him Happy Birthday, and told him to go hit a cycle.

I'm still upset about losing Thor and Loup for chump change. Considering even the Wilponies signed an injured Betances for 2 yrs at 13.5 million your telling me Thor and Loup aren't worth it. I will hate to see Thor pull a Wheeler when we could have easily signed him and thinking of a staff where he would be are 4th guy....wow. Now I know everyone will say then maybe we don't sign Bassitt but let remember we're in a new era and those contracts were certainly worth the gamble for an owner who's in it to win it. In Syndergaard we also lose a presence on the field and in the clubhouse kind of like Tom, Doc and Pedro were. Now speaking of Pedro brings me back to the DeGrom conversation because he reminds me of Jake because of his excellence and his fragility but at least Jake's not in the first year of a new contract so lets see how this plays out. On Jeff lets be thankful they didn't trade him or Dom as I'm on board with keeping both.
Thor had a nice first inning - 5.1 shutout innings, oddly just 1 K. Loup? 2 scoreless. Both likely would have helped the S.S. Mets sail smoothly.
Tom I still haven't gotten over not signing Murphy and then there's that Ryan trade and.....
I'm old and a Met fan and feel kind of like Rambo in First Blood when they take him downstairs in the Police station and you see his scars right before they hose him down:)
