Clark Elliott OF Michigan

Barrington, IL

Elliott is a slappy hitter with some sneaky pop that continues to develop as he gets comfortable in Big 10 play. Elliott gets really high marks for his approach at the plate and his ability to draw walks, limiting strikeouts. He's a threat on the basepaths, though the Wolverines don't tend to run as much as some other programs. In the field, Elliott is an above average runner with good instincts and an average arm that, for our money, best projects in centerfield at the next level, though he's been used at every outfield position on campus.

12. Detroit Tigers

Daniel Susac, Catcher, Arizona

The Tigers have dominated recent drafts thanks to hefty bonus pools and high draft picks. The organization is positioned for success very soon and we think Susac is definitely a good fit. The product of Roseville, California is carried by a big bat and leveraged by his leadership and admiration from his pitching staff and peers. He can hit, he’s got juice, and he can certainly stick behind the plate with a solid average arm and sneaky athleticism. Al Avila and the Tigers organization love big conference performers and Susac was one of the best players in the entire country last season as a true freshman. It wouldn’t surprise us to see the Tigers continue to bolster their future down the road by jumping on a talented high school arm here either.

 156 Tony Bullard 3B    Arizona

Riverside, CA

Bullard turned a corner the second half of 2021, his first draft-eligible year, though scouts want to see him repeat his production for a second year before pulling the trigger on him in the draft. Bullard has the size, physicality and athleticism teams want to inject into their player development programs. He hits the ball as hard as anyone, can add some value on the base paths, and is smooth enough on the dirt to handle shortstop in a pinch. He's probably only a fringy defensive third baseman, but the above average arm more than makes up for some of his limitations moving to his right.

85 Jalin Flores SS Brandeis

Helotes, TX

Flores is a tall, high-waisted, long-levered infielder with present bat speed and all-fields juice. There's some noise in the loading phase of his swing, but he's often on-time to drive the ball with authority into the gaps. Flores really hit a growth spurt in 2021 and now figures to likely shift to third base at the pro level, possibly even second base where he's played a good amount of his ball of late with Brandies. The bat is the calling card here.

Susac might be a good guy to pick, but we have Alvarez as our future catcher, so selecting a pitcher, or a Druw for CF would seemingly be a better use of a first round pick. What do you think, Mack?

I think the Mets need to steer away from the 'best player available' for the first 4 picks.

This draft is very deep in starters and outfielders but all the great bats will run out in the second round.

I would stick to both these positions for my first 4 picks before picking under slot seniors in the next 4 to balance out the money.

Susac will be a great starting catcher someday but Alvarez will beat him there.

Only one player can catch while 3 can start in the outfield and 5 on the mound.

Makes sense, Mack

One thing about catchers, they are the least likely position to develop in the majors. Look at Plawecki, look at that perennial great prospect Mejia on the Indians that’s been traded twice, look at Alfaro… hardest position to hit on.

Probably 3 that stand a good chance there...

Susac, Parada, and Dunhurst
