114 Roman Anthony  OF

Stoneman Douglass

North Palm Beach, FL

One of the smoothest LH swings in the class. Uses great hands and strong wrists to show impressive barrel control. Plus power and plus arm strength carry his corner OF profile.

Prospect Live Mock Draft 1.0

22. St. Louis Cardinals

Tristan Smith, LHP, Boiling Springs

The Cardinals have a knack for sitting back and watching how the draft plays out, seeing who might fall into their lap. Nolan Gorman, Jordan Walker, might that happen again in 2022? In a year so stacked with high school pitching, should a high-upside prepster slip to 22, which seems almost certain, it may be a match made in heaven. Noah Schultz, Brock Porter, they all make sense here. There’s any number of players that fit, but if the Cardinals go the college pitching route and East Carolina southpaw Carson Whisenhunt is still around, or even Arkansas righty Peyton Pallette, they’re a couple names to keep tabs on here as well.

297 Parker Noland 3B Vanderbilt

Knoxville, TN

There are those in the industry who believe Noland is bound to breakout at some point in the 2022 campaign. He's a tireless worker and has a sterling reputation among coaches and scouts in the Tennessee area. He's a solid defender at third base and can handle left field or second base in a pinch too. He's a pretty average hitter right now with significant swing and miss concerns in his profile, but there's some juice there and some all-fields approach as well. Should Noland breakthrough in 2022, he has early day two buzz among old school scouts.

109 Max Martin SS Moorestown

Edgewater Park, NJ

Martin is a skilled shortstop with good hands and fluid actions across the dirt. He's got some of the actions necessary to stick on the dirt. Martin burst onto the scene at WWBA 2021 with big hits and slugging the ball a bit. Scouts like the bat, though there is some swing and miss on occasion.

Roman Anthony may be one to grab a few rounds down.

I wonder what the best industry techniques there are to transform swing and miss issues into swing and hit success. Like everything else, I am sure there are optimal techniques to improve in that regard.

What ever happened to find a great coach and do what he tells you to do?

He gets fired and replaced by Hugh Q because he didn’t kiss the grand pooba’s ring the right way.

But I am serious - we know of a few Mets' tools minor leaguers every year who, if they could make a lot more consistent hard contact could make the big leagues for long careers. Maybe it is as simple as: some guys just can't be fixed because they are not robots. To not bring up current guys, two priors come to mind: Champ Stuart and Travis Taijeron.

If I was a coach and had lots of video, and had a tools minor leaguer who simply fans far too much, and I could find video of very similar-tooled guys in the majors, and show the videos side-by-side, and point out why the millionaire is succeeding and why I as a struggling minor leaguer am not, I'd try to mimic that successful guy.
