Mets Sign RHP Livan Hernandez to Minor League Deal

Veteran’s 147 Wins are 13th Among Active Pitchers



The New York Mets announced today that they have signed RHP Livan Hernandez to a minor league contract and invited him to major league spring training camp.

Hernandez, who will turn 34 on February 20, was a combined 13-11 with a 6.05 ERA in 31 starts for Minnesota and Colorado last season. In 180.0 innings, he allowed 257 hits, 129 runs, 121 earned, with 43 walks and 67 strikeouts.

Hernandez began the year with the Twins and posted a 10-8 record with a 5.48 ERA in 23 starts. He gave up 199 hits, 93 runs, 85 earned, with 29 walks and 54 strikeouts over 139.2 innings of work. Hernandez was designated for assignment on August 1 and was claimed off waivers by Colorado five days later. For the Rockies, he was 3-3 with an 8.03 ERA in eight starts.

In his 13-year career, Hernandez is 147-139 with a 4.37 ERA in 382 games, 381 starts. In 2,551.0 innings, he has allowed 2,806 hits, 1,335 runs, 1,240 earned, with 873 walks and 1,613 strikeouts.

Hernandez has started 30 or more games in 11 of his 13 major league seasons. He ranks 13th among active pitchers in wins and 17th in strikeouts.

Mack,

Will livan actually report to AAA or does he have a buy out.

If he goes to AAA the Moviel's spot can be filled by demotions every last starter moving down a league

I'm not sure what the deal with Livan is at this point.

The Mets offer these fossil deals to guys sometimes that only have a clause based on making the parent club, thus, he could be cut before the regular season starts.
