Part 4: Some More Speculation

(what happened to part 2???)

Okay…

Now, we’re starting to get a quick look at the Mets’ immediate future, and the one things that stands out is the fact that the starting rotation looks in good shape for the next three years (2009-2010).

I’m not even taking into factor that Garcia or Redding might pan out for the long term, and I know that Bradley Holt will be ready by 2011, but the good news, there doesn’t seem to be an immediate need to worry about that position.

So let’s speculate some other positions (and, I do mean speculate at this point…):

1B: The only current Met that possibly projects out as a possible Mets starter here would be Ike Davis, probably (especially after last year’s dud season), 2012.

2B: Right now, there is only one true prospect here, and that’s Greg Veloz, who will be ready also in 2012.

OF: Only one true prospect right now, and very young… Cesar Puello… possibly 2012.

C: Forgettaboutit… there will never be a starting Mets catcher without 3-5 years experience in MLB. Both Josh Thole and Franceso Pena may make it all the way, but right now they project out as backups for major city teams.

RP: It’s probably safe to say that both Carlos Muniz and Eddie Kunz will return in 2010, but I only project both through 2011. The Mets have some great kids growing up that will push them out by then.

So, here’s how we look now:

You can insert Jose Reyes at shortstop for 2011. The Mets have an $11 million option and when you think about what a bargain that will be.
