Mets Minor League Rosters: Catcher

You can’t have enough great minor league catchers, and, believe me, the Mets know this because they haven’t had many over the past ten years.

I always go on the assumption that each team will carry three:

AAA: Mike Nickeas, Gustavo Molina, Robinson Cancel, Rene Rivera, Omir Santos, and Sal Paniagua

Cancel has a chance of making the parent squad as a third catcher, but it’s just as easy having him in Buffalo with a bag packed. Both Santos and Rivera have been getting a lot of work in spring training, and this might be the last time I ever type the name Mike Nickeas.

AA: Josh Thole, Rafael Arroyo, Jason Jacobs, and Sean McCraw

Thole is your prospect, with his best friend McCraw probably backing him up this season.

A+: Francisco Pena, Luis Allen, and Jordan Abruzzo
Pena will finally get out of Savannah and, sadly, Abruzzo is still looking for a full time gig.

A: Dock Doyle, Ralph Henriquez, and Tony Macanni

All three should make the Gnats squad.

Update: Did you notice that Reese Havens caught a game this spring? It will be interesting to see where he goes (my guess is back to Brooklyn for the beginning of the year), and if the conversion from infielder to catcher continues.
