Minor League Starting Pitchers:
Remember… none of this really means anything in the first couple of weeks in minor league baseball. Everyone is just about limited to 50 pitchers, so you might see two starters in the same game.
Right now, here’s how the board stacks up:
AAA: Bobby Parnell, Jon Niese, Adam Bostick, Freddy Garcia, Nelson Figueroa, Fernando Nieve, Lican Hernandez
That’s two too many; however, if Parnell makes the Mets pen, and Livan becomes the SP5, there’s no reason why the Mets shouldn’t hold on to Garcia and see if he can built some arm strength in 10-below weather in Buffalo. There was a good chance that Tobi Stoner might have been in this rotation, but he was shut down early at ST with a minor injury and will most probably return to the B-Mets for his first starts.
AA: Dillon Gee, Mike Antonini, Dylan Owen, Jake Ruckle, Tobi Stoner, Eric Niesen
One too many, but if Stoner opens up on the IR, everything fits here.
A+: Brad Holt, Chris Schwinden, Elvin Ramirez, Brant Rustich, Angel Calero
Holt and Rustich are the prospects.
A: Mark Cahoon, Eric Beaulac, Michael Olmstead, Scott Shaw, Jenrry Mejia, Phillips Orta
One too many, which means Orta would become the long man out of the Sand Gnats pen. Prospects are Cahoon, Beaulac, and Mejia.
Chance of being cut: Orta and Garcia.
