Nieve was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Astros in 1999.
BA has ranked him as the 5th top Astro prospect in 2004, 8th in 2005, and 3rd in 2006
Nieve has had a highly successful 8-year minor league career, in which he went 45-34, 3.63, 1.30; however, he was out for most of the 2007 season with TJS.
He returned to the Astros AAA team in 2008 (2-5, 5.72) and got a cup of coffee with the parent club at the end of the season (0-1, 8.44).
From Wiki: “During most of his relief outings, he will consistently hit 94-97 mph, although he claims that in earlier years he had been able to go as high as 99 mph. Many say that he would be an excellent closer in the future. He recently had Tommy John surgery for elbow problems.
