Mets Sign Spivey to Minor League Deal
Infielder Won World Series Championship with Arizona in 2001
The New York Mets have signed INF Junior Spivey to a minor league contract. He reported to the team’s spring training camp in Port St. Lucie on Monday.
Spivey, 34, has played in 457 major league games with Arizona, Milwaukee and Washington and has a career .270 average with 48 home runs and 201RBI. He did not appear in a game last season. In 2007, Spivey hit .241 with two home runs and 14RBI in 25 games with the Pawtucket Red Sox.
Spivey played in 72 games for the Diamondbacks in 2001 and helped the club to a World Series Championship. The following season, he hit .301 with a 16 home runs and 78RBI in 143 games –all career highs.
